Just this time members get to own a little of the magic!

I don't know....I guess I just think it would be nice if Disney thought enough of the fans of WDW to make an effort to celebrate an age which in our culture is seen as some sort of "right of passage". I know that will seem somewhat naive (especially to the more "militant" of those who contribute here)but my friends and I will be celebrating in our own way when we head down in early October.....and I'm sure to leave with some 40th merch which should piss some of you off as well. My father and WDW share the same birthday in addition which has always been a source of joy and amusement to both of us.....so I guess that's a part of my disappointment also. Just so you know I was TOTALLY surprised and thrilled and touched by the party thrown for me. I have the BEST family and friends in the world. Well....I guess that's enough "me time" for now.....

MK got the snowglobe parade, Epcot got Tapestry of Dreams (converted from Tapestry of Nations), DAK got the Jammin' Jungle parade (funny how nobody ever seems to mention that it's still running after all these years, when it hasn't even gotten 'changes' like the MK parade), and MGM got Stars & Motorcars. At the time it seemed like they were trying to create a promotion with nothing new, but in retrospect, it all seems so substantial. Sigh.

Aside from the fact that WDW's management does not give a **** and is as CHEAP as ****, yes, the anniversary events have worn out their usefulness. You see (and I am sure you agree with me as well) all WDW magagement has to do is offer overpriced halloween/xmas parties and free dining meal plans to keep the walmart crowds coming. In the good old days.. huge anniversary celebrations were needed to keep visitors interested in coming to the parks. Not the case anymore. Since WDW lacks the outstanding quality that makes DLR and TDR "the" premier Disney parks destinations...well, hit them with gastronomic delights (as if the food at WDW was that great to begin with..) Again.. due to those little anniversary celebrations.. I have visited HKDL over 6 times this year and TDS will get my business often during their 10th anniversary event. As a local resident of Orlando, its tragic that I have no reason to make the 20 minutes drive to see that stale resort. Not even the new fantasyland expansion moves me to consider renewing my AP. Simply a sad state of affairs there. But hey.. money talks and apparently that is the reason to sell 40th anniversary merchandise, which is plentiful, and if there is consolation, at least we are seeing the return of the original WDW font on teeshirts, as opposed to the generic Walt signature font. But I am here to tell you..as a former CM during the (year long, smile wide)Tencennial and 15th anniversary celebrations.. I was never prouder to have been a part of WDW during those special times. How sad that the thousand of CMs now slaving there can't enjoy the same sense of pride I did back on those days. I would be surprised if they even get a special 40th name tag to wear. Tragic.

It's NOT about the attractions or even about the fanfare that comes with such events.. ITS ABOUT BEING ABLE TO CELEBRATE THE DISNEY PARKS WE ALL LOVE SO MUCH. If management does not see the need to celebrate their bread and butter, then why should we bother in the first place? The new attitude among Disney Co in the USA is troubling and speaks volumes of how badly things have deteriorated.
