Only 1 entree had a surcharge and it was the steak (I think the charge was like $2)

Am I the only person who would recommend the Concourse Steakhouse (I think that is the name) in the Contemporary Resort? We had some outstanding steak (filet) there and the service was first rate. I think I was more impressed with it than any of the other places we ate. They also had a couple of good desserts.

We have opted for the meal plan and our travel agent will be sending us a list of participating restaurants. But in the meantime I thought I would try to get a jump start on looking and planning. (I'm a HUGE planner! lol ) Our kids are 7, 6 and 4 so I think we are going to keep our restaurant choices more geared towards them and having fun. I've heard that the character breakfast is a must. As well as the Spirit of Aloha??? Is this a dinner show or a restaurant? We're frequent visitors to Hawaii so this would be a nice option for us. One more thing and I'll stop the flappagumma and give you all a rest from my blabbering. lol For any of the restaurants that you recommend, and especially for the Spirt of Aloha, are there websites where I can see them?
I thank you all for your help! And please feel free to email me with any suggestions you may have. Kalona422@aol.com
    Take care and God bless!

I would make PS ( priority seatings ) very soo with the dates you are there ( I am also there much of that time and made my PS's in December) - you can make them 180 days out and key times and places fill quickly.

okay - kis 7,6 & 4 -- so if you are looking at one or more characters engagements, here would bemy thoughts:

    Breakfast:

Chef Mickey - good food and lots of it, and for the 1st visit - a special experience - with the monorail coming thru the restaurant and a lot of character interaction. The family gets it's pic taken on entry ( your choice to buy or not) - and then keep the camera ready on the table as each characyer comes around to the table for 'autographs' and photo op
    Mickey / Minnie / Goofy / Pluto / Chip & Dale
( get yourself an autograph book and pen when you check in - the younger kids love this) )

    other options include:
1900 Park Faire ( made to order omelets also and cold strawberry soup - yum) - Mary Poppins / Mad hatter and a few others
Cape May in Beach Club - Mickey / Minnie / Goofy in beach attire and IMHO the best of the breaskfast food
Crystal Palace - Pooh/Tigger/Eeyore and a breakfast buffet
( I prefer this place for lunch - still get the characters a a good selection of food) -

After the characters most Disney restauants are kid friendly - some have additional interaction:

Whispering Canyon Cafe - fun and someinteractive times with the kids ( all you can eat BBQ) -

Ohana - Coconut races for the kids ( and adults who think they are kids ! sometimes Hula lessons also -

Biergarten in germany - German music hourly with dancing and a chance for the kids to go down on the dance floor and do the Chicken dance ( excellent food also - buffet ) -

Sci Fi Diner - MGM / Studios -- eat lunch in an indoor 'drive in theatre' - good burgers / shakes ( try the vege chili)

Prime Time Cafe - - good home style food in a 1950's kitchen setting and servers ( Mom ) are very interactive

there are so many choices it will boggle the mind -- we call our family trips 'eating our way thru WDW' -- my kids are now 21 and 11 and w hae been going 1 - 2 times per year since my oldest was 2.

As for the Spirit of Aloha - others will chime in by IMHO, more enjoyable for adults than younger kids - food is average for $50 / head ( kids are less) - Hoop De Doo musical review more interactive - if that's what you are seeking.

I have tinsmore ideas but dont want to overwhelm you...

if you want to see menus -- here a site that can help you withmenus at all locations

Hello kalona422! My name is Sharon, too!

I can tell you are going to have a ball at WDW.

With children, don't forget Ft Wilderness. The Trailsend Buffet there is fun for the kids to select their own food and yummy food!

Also at Ft Wilderness, the campfires in the evening with Chip and Dale are so much fun for the kids.

Ft Wilderness is just a boat ride over from MK, or Poly, GF, or Contemporary and the boat ride is fun, too.

I thank you for all of your input!!! I even printed it all out so when I sit down to make our plans that I will have it all right in front of me. lol I will be checking out that website too! Right now it all seems VERY overwhelming trying to decide what to do and when and THEN to coordinate restaurants to those plans as well. With little ones this age, I just do NOT want to be in one area or in one park and then have dinner plans somewhere TOTALLY opposite of where we're presently at. Oh, that's another question I have. Do the trams, buses or whatever other forms of transportation they have there, run between parks and also restaurants? I'm assuming that our resort ( we're staying at the Port Orleans Riverside ) will be giving us some form of ID so we can hop on the different transportation that they offer?
    Thanks again!
    Sharon

Since you're staying at PO Riverside, you will be using the buses. Just plan your "park restaurants" on the days you are in that specific park. But, what is fun and really less tiring, is to park hop. You can go into one park in the morning, especially Animal Kingdom, then hop to another park for the afternoon and evening. With young children, it will really be better to not stay in one park all day. Way too tiring for them.

Also, one restaurant I would like to point out as well is the Garden Grill in The Land in EPCOT. This restaurant offers delicious food and a real up close time with the characters. It doesn't seem to be as packed as some of the others.

The restaurants are either in the parks or at the resorts. So you will have transportation to all. You'll have the opportunity to ride the monorail from the Transportation Center to EPCOT and be sure to ask to ride in the front car. The kids love this and CM's are very accommodating if it's available.

Just beware that if you're dining at another resort, you'll need extra travel time if coming from your resort to there - there are buses linking the different parks to each other and the parks to each hotel, plus some areas where you can do monorail or boat to travel, but note that you can NOT get a bus from Downtown Disney to any of the parks you must go from DTD to a resort.
