Between the descriptions of a "cold buffet" for part of the meal and three different kinds of pickled herring, which no one other than a Scandinavian can stand, NO ONE went there. P.S. I'm Scandinavian and I only eat pickled herring because I'm supposed to. In reality, it is about as appetizing as eating dirty gym socks. Thank God they don't serve Lutefisk!

I was recently in PV, and coming from San Francisco the humidity hit me as soon as I stepped off of the plane. Even though it had tile floors my room at the El Presidente Intercontinental definitely had a mildew scent and I'm imagining that's what the WDW hotels smell like. I haven't had a WDW vacation in over 10 years and the last time I stayed there it was at Dixie Landing soon after it opened.

So that's why they try to make the rooms more "fun" in the same sense as the values are? It is these backstories which make Disney so special to me. My biggest disappointment with those room overlays isn't so much the fact that there is a character connection, but that it is a departure from offering a really themed environment at the resort instead of one which is only decorated to a theme. To me this really immersive theming which makes you believe that you are somewhere else is what makes the Disney resorts so special. And that means that the room should fit with the story of the resort. Anyone can make a pretty room with just placing all kind of princess stuff in it. It does not have to be in a Southern Mansion on a river where you check in at the riverboat company's ticket desk.

Also, there are more amenities at Disney moderate hotels than the Value hotels.

A slightly larger room also. Wether the multiple bus stops are positive can be debated, the shorter walk will be set off by longer traveling time on the bus.

As for princesses in Norway; Disney would say it's because the fort like exterior resembles a castle and they needed a second venue for princess dining, but I think RT is closer to the mark. No one was going for the authentic cold buffet and 3 types of pickled herring, but they are lining up to squeal at the princesses. Same goes for Ariel's Grotto at DCA, I don't recall it doing spectacular business in it's pre-princess incarnation. Those broads bring in a LOT of coin for the mouse so the proliferation will only get worse.
