There is a campaign afoot--supposedly--to take this matter before the courts on the basis of privacy invasion. We don't believe many ducklings out there are even aware that Wal-mart is doing such a thing--tracking your spending habits and who knows what else! But it's just another sign of an evil empire at work.

Saving a few dollars is no justification (to me) to support a Corp. that operates like WalMart does, period. I'm very sorry that the C.M.N., and Disney chose to link arms with this Corp., I think they will end up regretting it.

I rather doubt CMN would EVER regret taking any of that money, especially since the end result is far more important than who gave the donation.

MANY companies do that. It is a chip that enables companies to track inventory. They are only readable from a distance of about 5 feet, so once the customer leaves the store nobody knows squat. But then when do folks ever let the facts get in the way of vilifying Wal-Mart. Have we become that dumbed down (dare I say, WalMarted) as a society that aiming for the top is bad? It really scares me when intelligent people (and that even includes you, Trippy) defend such an evil, vile, cancerous company such as WalMart. The facts speak for themselves. Unfortunately, too many people opt to not listen.

I don't think Wal-Mart is any worse than many other companies. They just get a lot of scrutiny because they are the largest. In some ways Wal-Mart is very employee-friendly. The Twin Cities area has one of the largest Somali populations in the nation. They are almost always Muslim. While I have NEVER seen woman in a burqa at any other retailer, they are commonplace at Wal-Mart. Obviously Wal-Mart is willing to make concessions to religious beliefs that most other retailers are not willing to do. And unlike what many people predicted, Wal-Mart is NOT taking over the retail world. Wal-Mart has run into a major problem with their "always the lowest price" philosophy. One, an increasing number of manufacturers are refusing to do business with them. Two, when your target market is people without a lot of money, your sales really suck when the economy is bad. So Wal-Mart is going to be reigned in by the very things that made some think Wal-Mart would dominate the marketplace. Once again, Adam Smith's "invisible hand of the marketplace" shows itself to be true.
