Anyone outside of very rich who pays $600 for 18rs of GF is completely irresponsible with money. A more appropriate price in this downturn is $200, $250 tops.

I totally agree with you Nikki, if Disney Hotels/Resorts prices are not for you then stay elsewhere.

    I also say "y'all" & I'm from the North.

Just preferable, for some (for whatever reason).

Heck, some folks might consider the All-Stars "superior" because they're a lot of fun.

Fine for them...but that doesn't make the All-Stars "superior" in reality.

    Right?

Yup, it does certainly come down to preferences sometimes too. Heck, I LOVE the Contemporary (haven't priced it recently though) even though many online and elsewhere slam the place for being outdated and whateverelse...BUT, I would probably pay more to stay there than some other place, just because I like it (how much more is the real question).

But I certainly wouldn't justify my stay by saying "I think it's superior to the Four Seasons" or anything silly like that. :p

The Contempory is about $100 or so a night more than WL..just for monrail access.. I like the little boat better anyway. We live in a wooded area so the "rocks", streams & trees don't do it for me. The DH is the hunt/fish type , so he loves.

I love that place, actually. (I would still consider staying at the Contemporary if possible though, AND the Poly, as a matter of preference (I would NOT bother staying at the Grand Floridian unless all the other "top" Disney hotels were booked AND I could get a deep discount...just not my cup of tea regardless...).

With prices like this I am not surprised they NEED to run the 7for4 deal.

They're pricing the rooms as they are because they're getting that much for them. Out of line for you & me? Certainly. Out of line for the average clientele at the GF and the Poly? Not at all.

Yes, that is obviously what they are doing. They aren't giving away rooms all summer becuase they are running a %98 percent occupancy rate. When they implemented the plan they were running at (reportedly) about a 30% occupancy rate on existing reservations.
So Dan, why do YOU think they are giving away rooms all summer? If they were booked, they wouldn't be giving away rooms. Thats pretty obvious.

I'd be interested in the occupancy rates before & after the 4/3 night deal. If GF is at 90% before they made the free night offer, then obviously there are people out there who don't think it's overpriced. Hey, let them spend their money, it gives people jobs.

If GF was at 10% occupancy, then they are surely overpriced and trying to back track by offering free nights.

And as someone said. If you're there extra nights, that's more you have to spend for admission, food and stuff. Not that there was a lot of "stuff" that I wanted to buy last summer.

But I have noticed that those that defend the $630 price also don't stay there.

You're looking at it as if the inventory of rooms is all in one big pile. It's entirely possible for Disney to be selling its high end inventory at top dollar while still needing to fill the sales of the rest of the rooms. If they have 900 rooms at the GF, and can sell 100 of them at $600 a night, that's a good thing for them. But the other 800 aren't selling at $300 a night, so they need to do a special.

I've never been in hotel management, so I'm basically talking without real knowledge (something I'm good at!). But it makes total sense to me that they could be doing both - successfully selling at high price, while still needing to discount the rest of their inventory.

So I believe quoting such a high Rack Rate to ANYONE at this point is counterproductive. But Disney fans, because of the desire to go, will scourer the internets for secret codes and such. Even if you call central Reservations and ask what deals are available they won't tell you. I just look for properties that actually want me there, not the other way around.

No, you buy in advance, get the right discount, and save money. But there are business people who don't care about the discounts, who want to get to Orlando NOW, and the price doesn't matter. This is what's happening with Disney. They can continue to make top dollar for rooms, but at the same time they need to offer these discounts to push up their occupancy.
