This kind of fits what Doug posted in the discussion about DCA, how self referential Disney has become.

I understand that D23 is about the history of the parks to a large degree, and I love history and think knowledge about it is important in so many ways.

But I get the impression that with Disney parks the history is being used more and more to distract from the present. As important history is to understand where we come from (and I would say this is way more important with regard to society as a whole than for theme parks), life is happening now. If one starts to live more in the past than in the present, it is a huge sign that there is something wrong.

Reminds me of a Dr Who saying, who is more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows them.

You know, if that was really the case, I'd actually bid...

    How pathetic is that?

    Oh, agreed totally.

Disney doesn't do "other" things anymore with the Disney flair. Like EPCOT. Like Adventure Through Inner Space. Like Figment.

They only do DISNEY, blatant and pixie dusted.

That's largely the problem with something like the HM queue. It's not NEW ideas.. it's all OLD HM references. And bad ones at that.

Fan fiction, as it's been described.

And that is in consideration that this attraction was approved as a partial response to Potter.

Good point, but I do think that's a tad unfair.

SWSA II is a coaster, and a small one, at that. WOM was a MASSIVE E ticket Omnimover.

... but yes, we are hard pressed to find a massive AA laden E Tic these days.

That's not what I am suggesting it has to be though. It's not an either or proposition.

My point is that 30 years ago they were willing to go to those lengths for one pavilion, while at the same time, spending billions on the other dozen and a half pavilions for opening day. But now, today, for this 'historic' Fantasyland expansion the best they can muster up with all of their limited resources is was show scene for SNOW WHITE. Not some generic transportation theme, but SNOW 'STARTED IT ALL' WHITE. And not only is it the big new addition, but it is a replacement for a SNOW WHITE attraction that was nothing but show scenes.

If you step back and think of this, but in perspective, you really see how far they have fallen when it comes to pushing the envelope for their guests. Delivering.

This is why some of us give Universal slack. At least they are trying to top themselves.

And that was a fair complaint. Too many of the same type attraction - Omnimover/AA. Made sense to mix it up.

However, Disney used that excuse as a reason to mix it up with cheaper attractions, cheaper to build, cheaper to operate, and cheaper to maintain. Now instead of redundancy on expensive attractions, we have redundancy on cheaper attractions.

What is the point for people to get off their couches or Youtube accounts when all they are expected to do when visiting the park is sit down and watch some projection.

It's really troubling when it comes to the long-term longevity of these parks.

Indeed - and the sad thing is that they try to substitute creating new content with hyping the emotions about existing - as well as past - content in order to try to stay relevant.

That's what Disney Social Media is about to a large extent. All those many blog posts kind of try to let you forget that there is nothing really new and of interest to report.

I thought Obi Wan said that. Maybe George Lucas ripped it off from the Doctor?
