That's where WDW does seem to fail far more than any of the other Disney resorts I've been to.<< THIS!! I haven't read the whole thread, but this is the thing that I keep coming back to. So absolutely true.

Changing it up effects the experience of the whole park. I really don't want that to happen to the whole park, as much as I do to the ride.

At the height of the Pressler era we actually had canvas awnings draped over rotting porch rails on the Plaza Pavilion, within view of Sleeping Beauty Castle and the Hub. For over ten years he massaged the place, lavishing a lot of care and attention on every detail, and (just incidently) setting the precedent for constant improvement over phony nostalgia for anything outdated. Contrast this to the creation of the Magic Kingdom. Walt's real interest in "The Florida Project" was his desire to create EPCOT, an actual city that would demonstrate his ideas to cure the ills of poor urban planning. With a real "Tomorrowland" in the offing, Walt didn't really spend much time on the Magic Kingdom. Been there, done that. In fact, some of the old-time Imagineers have detailed (mostly off the record) their frustration in getting Walt to even discuss the MK. Their only charge was to make it bigger. As far as the details went, Walt's attention was elsewhere. And that, I believe, set a precedent that resonates to this day. They just don't care, because Walt really didn't either.

You can also stop in Vegas on the way home (like we did) and let Sin City help with your recovery from pixie dust. ;-) A road trip to Orlando would be unimaginably horrible. As far as the two parks go, I prefer Disneyland (even though I think its castle is lame). As I've said before, Disneyland has more attractions and when there are differences in the same attraction the DL version is almost always better. DL is much more charming, but that charm is a big drawback when it results in the massive crowding for Fantasmic. I've never seen DL's Fantasmic because the crowding in Frontierland and New Orleans Square makes me positively claustrophobic. I make sure I'm safely tucked away in Tomorrowland before the show starts! But Disneyland is overall a much more enjoyable park than the Magic Kingdom. There is absolutely no comparison between the two Fantasylands.

Look at the additions there from 1990-2005. The last straw was when it was announced that Disneyland's 50th celebration would include four "gifts" to... WALT DISNEY WORLD! And nothing new at Disneyland.

My family stopped there many times in the 1990s on our drives from Atlanta. There was also a WDW radio station that you could pick up on I-75. I believe the radio station is also long gone. Too bad, those small parts of the experience added a lot to the WDW vacation.
