While I have no doubt that this is true, I've talked to many CMs over the years, many of them of retirement age, who could not be happier about their move to Florida and employment by the Mouse. When I make the move in 10 years or so, I'll be looking at a job in WDW to be more of an excuse to get out of the house, with maybe a bit of money to supplement my retirement income. I will in no way be expecting to make big bucks or to use WDW as my main source of income. Assuming I get boats as I'm planning to, I can't see a down side. I'll be out and about, interacting with guests, chatting and using my lifelong knowledge of the parks to help folks out, all while being out on the water which is where I'm most comfortable. I think it'll be a total blast!

If i moved to California my mom would probably move in LOL. I am about to get a job with a health care company that has retirment homes all over North America which is a bonus. My husband is also a electrician in a good union and the wage is way higher in CA then here for some reason. Who knows if it will ever happen. I can say i do not want to move to California for Disney, but more for the weather and beaches.

That's easy. The cost of living in California is insane. High property prices everywhere (not just in downtown areas) lead to high rent prices for you, and high prices on goods and services sold everywhere. Gas is expensive, which also drives up prices.

I'm not really a beach person, but I thought that the weather would be nice too. However, it's kind of surprising how much you can miss the seasons. There's also a certain heartiness in people who deal with occasional weather (both relating to weather, and just in everyday life); that seems to not exist much in southern California. It's a fun place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live here (and hopefully I'll find out about a job elsewhere sometime today!). But I'm a negative Nancy, so what do I know?

Wages is higher because the cost of living is higher. Check out the cost of housing. It is crazy. Why I chose Florida over California. Besides, the beaches are much nicer in Florida.

We have a modest house outside of Vancouver and the cost is near 700,000 and if you want a 2 bedroom box in downtown it can cost around the same price LOL. We drive to Washington every weekend to fill up gas and even though its 4bucks a gallon its still a bargain. We also stock up on groceries because some things are almost doubled in price for the same food item.

"and high prices on goods and services sold everywhere"

Cant be much worse than 13 percent sales tax.

We also have crazy insurance prices because we dont have competitive companies to choose from just one, higher prices in cable, cell phones, pretty much every service you have to pay for. And we pay through the teeth for heating which would probably be about the same as paying for electricity in Cali.

I have reseached this a lot and we would be saving a lot of money moving almost anywhere.

I do want a newer home near Disney. What are places to look into. I was looking at Windermere - Celebration (which is high and homes look older) Winter Garden or Clermont (some say high crime abandoned homes ? )

I have no idea what I am looking at. Yes my main goal is to be close to WDW.

    ANY help would be appreciated.

I completely agree. I wouldn't be going for a retirement job there to actually make money. It would be more to get out of the house, interact with people, and work at a place that I really enjoy.
