And the OP asked for advice about moving to Orlando ... therefore there's either blood in the water or he's just fair game. So, the first thing I have to ask semi-seriously is 'are you out of your minds?' You want to move to Orlando, sans jobs, all across the country to be closer to theme parks? Do you have a trust fund? A charity you can skim off? Some family or ex-family to support you? A job lined up that will enable you to live in the parks? Maybe take pics of construction walls and planters? Not trying to be cruel. It just seems like there's no sense of reality at play here at all. Orlando is an incredibly depressed metro area unless you are one of the select few with an actual high-paying white collar job. Sure, you can buy a house for very little, but you do realize that's because of how severe the economy has turned there (it's even worse in other parts of the state, I'd advise anyone who thinks a move here is a good idea to read last Sunday's story in the NY Times on the Cape Coral area -- Ground Zero for the housing disaster). I have a young friend who recently bought a new home in Windermere at a price that would have been considered a steal just 2-3 years ago. But less than a year later, and with money not being a huge issue for him, he's wondering what the hell he did. And he's been living in the area for years now, just renting. Education is definitely a school to school issue, but understand that overall Florida's public schools suck. The weather here is also vastly overrated, especially if you're in AZ now. It is frigid here right now, and there's a difference between FLA cold (likely due to the humidity) and northern cold that you don't realize until you live here. It's why I've been in blizzards in New England and never been as cold as I was on 12/31/00 at EPCOT when the temp dipped to about 30 with wind. And summers and most of fall are wretched with heat, humidity, lightning and rain. I could go on and on ... but there's a reason why more people are leaving FLA for the first time than moving here for the first time in decades. Reasons. And as much as I love Disney, IMHO it's a piss-poor reason to uproot a family and move unless money is no object (and I'm not getting that). If you need to be near Disney so badly and want a higher quality of life might I suggest Paris? (Even though I believe every word I wrote, this ought to be better for entertainment than the football game I'm watching!)

Now what were those winning lottery numbers tonight..... We want the Florida weather. We can take the hot humid summers compared to these frigid, snowy, midwest winters. Everyone deserves a chance to follow their dreams and desires. Let this family follow their hearts. If it doesn't work out, you just press on. We all have dreams, but few make them a reality.

I'm asking because you've never given any likes or dislikes of Florida, based on previous trips. So I doubt you've ever been to Florida. And if you're thinking of moving your family there, you need to go there and check it out beforehand. You believe your love of Disney will be enough. I highly doubt it. I think you're primarily wanting to leave AZ to escape something, or several things. And for some reason, SoCal and DL are off the table. Given what you've posted in WE, I'm guessing it's the politics and 'cultures' different than your own. If it's the heat, Florida has worse. If it's cultures less conservative or different than your own, Florida has those as well, especially in and around WDW. Whatever it is you're trying to escape from in AZ, you will most likely find it near WDW and DL. And if this is all about Disney and nothing but Disney, then you'd be better off moving closer to Anaheim. Try San Diego. Plenty of conservative Republicans, Sea World, a great zoo, and nice weather.

I plan on moving to the Orlando area and working for Disney driving boats around the property. But before actually moving I plan on maybe a 2 to 4 week visit where I'll be driving around to all of the surrounding communities, basically checking everything out so I can make an informed decision. Good luck to you and your family!

If it works out, fantastic! If it doesn't, chalk it up to learning and try something else. But I really do wish you guys the very best of luck.
