If it's early "boom" mode then great, even better but why come late to an economic party and pay a high door/entry fee when the keg is running dry? ----if it's your dream, better to descend into the Orlando area when things are cheap and in disarray like what some of those northerners did back in 'reconstruction South' post 1865. I say 'capetbagging' is a much better bet than showing up somewhere else and paying top dollar for everything. I say follow your dreams now otherwise you might wakeup at age 62 and find that most of your life is over and you no longer have the personal stamina and drive to do what you were put on this earth to do. I was 35 when I woke up and did something so absurd, so revolutionary and so ridiculous --like going after my dream-- as to leave people who knew me completely in shock.

Paying top dollar for everything is fine when you have work. Living someplace cheaper doesn't matter if you can't find gainful employment to pay for it.

Not to mention the cultural shock, but it would be one heck of an adventure.

The weather is always amazing, you are within two hours of the beach, the mountains (skiing!), and especially Disneyland Resort. The schools are some of the best you'll find anywhere. And as for the conservative vs. liberal junk - toss it out the back door with the rest of the garbage, because we coexist and agree to disagree in my neck of the woods! I have visited WDW, really liked it and will be going back again in the not-too-distant future, but to live in Orlando? Not when I have sunny San Diego!

I recommend you fly to San Francisco, have a romantic wedding in Lake Tahoe (biased, we loved getting married there), drive through the national parks to the coast, and honeymoon at DL and San Diego (Grand Californian for the first park, the Del Coronado in SD for the second). Look into it. I think you would love it.

From what I have been reading the job market in the metro Orlando area is one of the worst in the country. Jobs are scarce and pay is very low. I also read recently that almost 30% of Orlando houses, condos and apartments are VACANT. If that isn't a warning sign, then I don't know what is.
