It's amazing how much of a difference that 2 years makes. He was considered a "Mature Student" at college.

He's now head of Performing Arts at a High School and can provide well for his family. That probably wouldn't have been the case if he hadn't been able to live at home!!!

Truer words have rarely been spoken (or written).

Not to get too into my own problems, but I'm one of those who moved out on my own and back in with my folks multiple times before getting my act together. I wish I'd been more resourceful and better able to take care of myself better, but I wasn't. :-(

I'm incredibly grateful that they were able and willing to provide a safety net when I ran into trouble.

That's great the you appreciate it, when they gave you these safety nets did they give you stipulations on it? If not do you think it would have helped you if they did? For example, if they gave you money they asked you to pay it back.

When I moved back, I did paid rent and was expected to be actively looking for work and a place of my own. I haven't been able to pay back all the money I've borrowed (long story, and not a happy one), though I still hope to, eventually.

What is the saying about "a helping hand, not a hand-out"?

It's not that rare here in the UK, a family friend went to London which is only an hour away!

Anyway, sorry to have hijacked the original thread!!!

This is so true. My dad was the youngest of 5 boys. He always talked about his brothers moving home with their families. (And it was a small house.) During the depression there was often no choice. But eventually they all became independent, raised indepenent children and I do not think any of us missed out on the harsh realities of life. There are plenty out there.

If my son living with us wasn't good for us as well we would not have him here.
    PAX everyone.
