But of the 4 shows MF was the only one the other night not to stoop to the "embarrassing situation" for laughs. Ugh, I hate that. Happy Endings was especially bad because they used that for the entire episode instead of just one scene. Even Suburgatory, which I actually love, had one.

You come to genuinely care about every character on this show, and each character feels like a real person, not a "type." As the series continues, we see more aspects to each of the characters, not repeated schtick. It's hip and edgy without being mean spirited. That's not easy to do, but Modern Family pulls it off week after week. Great show.
