If I stake out a choice seat at say an I-Max movie and there are many undesirable seats still available but all of the good ones left are near me then I would have no issue if one sets up camp directly next to me. But if there are other choice seats availbale whereby one could sit at least 2 seats away(thus leaving a 1 seat minimum buffer between me and stranger)then I would take issue if someone I did not know sat directly next to me. Now, if there are 2 consecutive open seats between 2 unrelated parties in a desirable row and one plops down directly next to me then so be it---- it's a non issue; after all the stranger has to sit directly next to one of the two parties so might as well be me.

There is a proper time and place for that model you describe when filling a venue like a Muppet theater, Nemo Sub or Haunted Mansion stretch room(of course we don't sit in there but we should move all the way in to allow for maximum ride capacity). But for an I-Max experience(as well as other setups) many people will camp out early to secure a central seat for the center is deemed highly desirable.
