It wasn't anything major, like a segment on a different ride, but it was just a clip or two that got swapped out. Since we watched it almost constantly in the room, the first time we saw the new version, we looked at eachother with the generic "Wait a second!" look. Why did they switch those clips out (I honestly don't remember anything particularly distinguising about them before or after the changes), but keep the creepy old one?

There are some people from an ad agency, an online editor, a big box of tapes that cover 30 years, and a producer who is trying to create a message. They go through the tapes, see a shot of Donald playing with a kid, and go "hey, that's great - it'll fit in right here", and then they use it. And to their semi-trained eyes, the finished product looks good, and meets the goals that came down from corporate.

Now, you & me, who have seen every promotional video for the past 30 years, know that that show of the little girl putting the Donald hat on her head has been used to death. But again, the people approving these videos don't know that. They look at all the fun cast members sitting on clouds and talking about their favorite memories, and they get all warm and fuzzy, thinking that this is what it's all about. But in this case, it isn't. It's about showing the parks, the water parks, the new stuff in DTD, in as much detail as possible. But they'll never know that, cuz they have the wrong people putting the videos together. >>

I've read Danny saying this before ... and I've posted in agreement on all counts before.

And I think I just did ... so can you change your destiny? Or does the universe course correct?

More importantly, will Disney ever put out a new planning DVD with all new and realistic footage or will they keep recycling and splicing and mixing?

    Rhetorical.

I am of the firm belief that 75% of all jobs are done by people who should be replaced tomorrow.

It's my firm belief that the people doing the videos really don't know that they're doing them poorly. They look at the finished product, clouds and all, and think that they've done a terrific job. And from a technical angle, they're right - they are very beautiful and well made. But they'd have to be on the inside, like us, to realize that they're missing their mark.

I've been doing video editing for over 20 years. In that time I've done some corporate things where I don't have a clue if the final product is going to be effective. I have to count on the video's producer, who is either someone inside the company or at least has a long relationship with the company and thus understands their needs. In the case of these Disney videos, I really believe the editor is completely blameless - probably has never been to any Disney park. It's all on the shoulders of the Disney producer(s), who may not have much more inside knowledge than the editor himself. So they make a product that works for themselves, and we all know how that works out.

And Spirit, we all know that I live for your approval - thanks for the kind words!!!

Perhaps it's because Disney has become such an immense force in the industry that they have lost all sense of contact on a personal level by people that know Disney, and what Disney use to be.

They don't have to run a play by play video of each ride. But give me the feel, the experience, of being there. I can't get that out of talking heads in the clouds. I did get that from Erin and her 3 buddies running around the World and having fun!

That video was lively, and fun. It made you want to be there. I guess that's what makes Stacey so charming to so many people also.

This stuff that Disney cranks out now just has no life to it.

I would really be interested in knowing how much the 2005, and 2006 videos cost in comparison to the garbage they are putting out now.

I got much more of a feel for the Parks, and Resorts even from the much older videos than what I do now.

They have definetly been taking steps backwards for a while now.
