I started buying myself stuff last year or the year before because when I was looking over the Black Friday websites I'd see things I actually wanted. And my husband won't go near the stores on Black Friday. So why should he pay $30 for something on Christmas Eve if I can get it on Black Friday for $10-$15? Yeah, I know, it probably ruins the spirit of Christmas and all, but oh well, that's what I started doing.

Actually, I'm not really sure about that since I've had kids almost my entire adult life. Maybe I would do it all even w/o them. I'd probably do less "fun" decorations and bright colors and focus more on more neutral colors and greenery. My joy from Christmas comes from making it special for other people so it is kind of about them.

Throughout the year if I see something that he would like I'll buy it and he does the same for me. However, this year we decided that it would be nice to have annual passes because we plan on going to Disneyland more than once.

Yes - I was a bit obtuse by saying that - I only mean that the commercialized part of Christmas - gift buying, Santa and the like, is most appreciated by children and unless one is rolling in the proverbial dough, one might be wise to just get things for kids, since adults generally do not really "need" things and children delight in the anticipation and joy of Christmas morning much more that adults, at least in my experience. The religious part of Christmas (the real meaning in other words!) is equally important for all participants, obviously.
