    It's a political melodrama based on the far-fetched notion (for 1964) of a black President of the United States. (Later made into a movie starring James Earl Jones as the President and William Windom as the polite but secretly racist Secretary of State.)

    I think it's his best actual novel (as opposed to "The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy," which is half of a two-part novelization of a radio series).
