It's kind of wierd, because in the first case study, the victim was a very popular member of a 14er online forum and the auther included many of the postings from the forum as the attempted rescue was happening. It sounded exactly like posters here, just a different topic. It would be like this happened... Topic: John Disney Doe was injured on a ride at Disneyland Followed by many postings of prayer and good thoughts. Then someone with "insider information" would post, "I just spoke w/ my friend who is a CM and saw everything and John Disney Doe is just fine." Then there would be all kinds of relieved postings. But then another post would surface. "The previous poster was wrong. John Disney Doe has not yet been rescued from the ride and is suffering from multiple fractures. Rescue workers are with him now." Then somebody is going to post, "I've been friends with John Disney Doe for 20 years and I love the guy, but he was always a person who did not keep his hands, arms and feet inside the ride at all times." That person would get flamed about saying bad things about John Disney Doe when he was possibly dying. But speculation would begin, was it a ride malfunction or did JDD stick his hands, arms and feet outside the ride and cause the accident. Someone would post a get well wish for JDD referencing an inside joke from a previous Play Pen flirtation involving Redi Whip. Then, the reality would be known as the officials would make the announcement. JDD had died and an investigation is pending to determine what happened. Naturally this would illicit no less than 500 subsequent postings lamenting the loss of JDD and also rampant speculations, broken periodically by a post stating that said poster refuses to participate in the speculation and will not pass judgement until all the facts are known. Now take the above and just change the details to involve a popular poster on a 14er's chat group, who attempted to make a winter ascent up a 14,000 foot peak in Colorado without the necesary gear and fell several hundred feet. He survived through the night and until rescue workers got to him, but died before he could be evacuated to the hospital. And yes, there was a post involving Reddi Whip... "Oh no! TalusMonkey! Where was your Reddi-Whip? You could have engaged the emergency switch on the side of the can which releases the motherload of cream and landed in a big puffy pile of the whipped stuff."

I had no idea who 3/4ths of the characters were. I put the book down several times in frustration.
