Not fair, half of those are no longer. That way my list would look really different now:

    1. Illuminations
    2. American Adventure
    3. Horizons
    4. Spaceship Earth
    5. World of Motion
    6. Kilemenjaro Safari
    7. Carousel of Progress
    8. Tower of Terror
    9. Timekeeper
    10. Listen to the Land

You will also no doubt love the California versions of PotC and Grizzly River Rapids.

We were going to visit last year but, with the expansion, we booked DCL instead! I'm going to get there! I can't wait to see the light on in Uncle Walt's apartment :) *tears*

Not only is it in Paris, but it is off-the-shelf Vekoma not proprietary to Disney.

A close to identical version (no sound system, faster) was found outside in Six Flag's old park in Holland. An odd choice for Six Flags, because typically they like coasters with an open stream-lined layout. Could've been the nature of an international park v. domestic.

Disney switched from having a desire for a custom layout, to, (in my imagination) basically calling up Vekoma and seeing what is available with little consideration for typical Disney imagineering.

LSM coaster launches are weak too. Another knock against this coaster. Will take the Mummy's or Hulk's Orlando launch any day.

Flight of Fear, while also cheap on theme, was at least a better version of an indoor launched coaster. Premiere's layout with a LIM launch was a much better version.

I can go on and on about what a mediocre implementation this was for Disney. Especially when it came to what potential there was for something even better. But I won't, I'm sure I am beating a dead horse.

Because at Tower, guests can walk inside the room itself with the props. They can touch, feel, see. They are part of the room and its set design. They are interacting (not Disney's A.D.D. idea of interacting) with the space.

At RNRC, guests are in a bland viewing area looking into an interesting room. For that effect to work, sure, I get it, but it is poor design. Guests should be IN an interesting room. This was one of the attractions designed with this trend in their queues. M:S another one. Bland queue, looking AT the gravity wheel, looking AT the control room. The queue should have been themed itself to something akin to the gravity wheel.

Disney use to put guests IN these environments. Now, just more short-cuts in fleshing out a themed environment.

Cool list Dave. I know it's no fair, but it's no fair that Disney removed what were some top 10 attractions and then replaced them with drivel.

I wanted to figure a way to get Timekeeper on my list, but it was hard to keep show formats on the top 15. I went 15 in case folks wanted to exclude attractions no longer available.

That said, they needed something to eat people up off the midway and, given space restrictions, there were only so many options.

I think RNRC served its purpose while being a good ride with some Disney touches that aims at the thrill crowd.

Unfortunately, it really doesn't fit in with it's surroundings.

No doubt, it needed to be placed at the end of Sunset but because of consideration for the animation complex's parking deck it was flopped down. What at one time was a custom layout with better sets and scenes (bluesky), ended up with a coaster in a box.

Rnrc was Disney taking the path of least resistence, quickly.

Because of the need you call out very well. Because past projects for that area were never approved and it left the park in a bind logistically.

Mgm's development path has always been out of reaction. Since day one. It would be nice to see that change with new, substantial additions.

Special mention to Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise which are slightly better than Disneyland's versions IMO.

ChiMike, can you tell us more about what it was supposed to be? I would be really interested in knowing what I missed.

I would agree there, except I can't remember what was different with HM, other than the exterior. We only rode it once so I guess that's why. I liked Jungle Cruise WAY better. Splash was very cool, except I wish I was expecting to get wet that first time...I got it right in my face!

The story goes that they were emboldened by Space Mountain's sound installation to bring a rock and roll coaster to MGM. I know in one of the coffee table books about ten years ago there was a conceptual sketch/rendering of an early idea for it.

At one point it was an outside coaster.

At one point it was a coaster which traveled in more defined spaces (rooms, what have you) rather than one big box.

Scenes were more compartmentalized, prior to and during the gravity portion of the ride. e.g. Hollywood "O", pre launch show scene

Set pieces were more fully realized

I believe I had heard after they settled on Aerosmith they mocked up a rendering with their song "Living on the Edge" or whatever it is called. Anyways, the soundtrack was supposed to be more specific to presenting the attraction's narrative. Not just a random jukebox playing of a title.

Storyline was not so specific about recording studio, but rather generic RnR with Chevy ride vehicle.

Sorry can't be much more help. I just remember all the scuttlebutt about it leading up to the construction. Some of it probably untrue, nevertheless was disappointed when it was clear during construction what the project was about.
