And some guests get the honor of saying something they designed was used in a Disney theme park. Everyone wins!!!

Invisible disabilities are more common now as medical treatment is more and more effective. Granted, there will always be many who will abuse the system, but most of those who are in ecv's really need them. I need a service dog to get through a normal day (steps, curbs, hills, uneven ground, handling cash and credit cards, openning doors, medical alert, etc.), but I look very healthy and am not overweight. I must use an ecv in the parks as I have little fat on the bottoms of my feet and after time will get massive blisters on my feet. I do not own an ecv or wheelchair because my dog is sufficient to help me at home. On vacation, I do tons more walking and movements I wouldn't be doing during a normal day at home. Please don't assume that all people are abusing the system. Making getting a wheelchair from an outside vendor can be quite complicated and you are not guaranteed a quality item. I have rented from these vendors and have had ecv's break down, leaving me stranded in the middle of the walkways in epcot. Those of us with accessibility issues would appreciate having things made *more* accessible, not less ;-) All that being said, I'm really annoyed by people who abuse the system or rent the ecv's without knowing how to drive them. I wish I could figure out a way to fix the problem. And I would give anything to stand in a long line or walk miles just not to need a service dog or a wheelchair

She is a very healthy 80 year old (and, IMHO, doesn't look 80 years old) but it's physically impossible for her to do all the walking a trip to WDW requires. She's told me quite often that she'd much rather be able to walk around the parks just as everyone else, and feels guilty that we have to push her in the wheelchair (she said she's afraid she'd run people over if we got her an ECV), but I'd much rather push her around than worry about her getting ridiculously tired and hurting herself. Also, I'd be worried about her walking about due to the crowds at WDW. So often people rush by that I'm concerned someone would knock her over and she'd end up with a broken hip - and then I'd lose it on whomever knocked her over.

Sadly she does not bother anymore because my dad is a 1st class heel and gets embarrassed as do my teenage brothers. It really angers me because I would rather we all go out and have fun together and it does not knock my mom out of commission fr the week. But I have seen more abuse at WDW than any other park. Hence the preorder idea. It's a difficult one this. For those who ned it, they are essential. But there are those wo really abuse it (like the idots that use disabled parking when they are not disabled ggggrrrrr. So many times I have left notes for those jerks, or told them off if I see them

Then those who like them can plan, and the average guests win too. Advertise them way in advance.

Sure there are many folks who appear able-bodied, that have maladies you can't see, and need ECVs. But I've seen enough abuse to understand why their sales and rent have become a cottage industry in Orlando.
