    The Notebook

The Notebook *really* gets to me. Not only was it set exactly during the time my parents were that age, but James Garner was my mother's absolute FAVORITE actor, and their song in the movie -- "I'll Be Seeing You" -- was the one she'd asked to have played at her memorial service. I bawled like a baby during that movie. Still do.

I cry at happy endings when I'm smillng as well as at the sad or sentimental parts (the part in Dumbo that always gets me is "Baby of mMine")

I adored "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" because it ha me both laughing and crying - a true emotional roller coaster!

I agree with so many of the movies on everyone else's lists. Did anyone mention "Edward Scissorhands"?

But the 2 movies I saw that were the most heartbreaking movies I have ever seen were "Testament", with Jane Alexander, as a parent knowing what her children would never be able to experience. My brother-in-law had brought over the video then everyone fell asleep before we watched it. Well, I stayed up and sobbed through the entire thing. In a way I'm glad I saw it along so I didn't have to hold back. And the other was "Flight 93", knowing it was not just a movie.

    One moment:

    They adopted a child.

Another moment: child is given a small behind-the-scenes part in a Christmas play and it requires her to wear white sneakers, of which the child was so proud, even though she's not ever on stage.

Another moment, later that year: the child dies of disease. The next Christmas, a car pulls in front of thier house as the car breaks down. A mom has a little girl with her and they are late for the Christmas play. Cary Grant and Irene Dunn offer to drive the mom and daughter to the school play, and as the child gets out, we see that she has on white sneakers!

Oh, I just cry and cry at this scene!!

Go rent the movie to see how it ends!!!! It's a tear-jerker!!!!!!!

If you have not seen it give it a try. It is another tough and emotional film to sit through but is worth it.

I so agree with you, both for the movie and the actor. He's probably my all time favorite (or so close it doesn't matter). Those looks, that voice, the suave humor, 'nuf said.

Ohhhh, threeundertwo! I remember that movie like it was yesterday, but for the life of me I couldn't remember the title... Thank you! (And yes... It was SO incredibly sad! Sad for the precious otter, sad for the man who lost him and sad for the poor man who had no idea he was killing someone's pet. *Sigh*)
