FWIW, 18 months ago you could get rooms at Hojo's for $50-60 without the entertainment card. Now you are talking $80-90. Of course if vacancy rate increase this fall that could change.

I believe that was not an Entertainment rate. At those rates, I don't think you can beat HoJo's! The pools, grounds and size of rooms are definitely a cut above the hotels closer to the crosswalk.

Hojo's isn't offering the $49.00 rate yet but said to check back middle of Sept, I am going to be saving $40.00 a night but with having to buy art passes and breakfast for the three (DS and DH eat big) am not sure if it will be worth the savings??? What to do? CCI has the edge in my book but they are both great
Originally Posted By Lisann22 I just looked at the list, here's my take & comments: Suites: ======= Embassy Suites - Garden Grove If you can get the $149 rate, this is one of the best deals going. The continental breakfast is the best out there as far as I'm concerned. With a king bed and the sofa couch, parents can have some privacy but be in the same room. 2 full beds and a sofa allows you to sleep 5, kinda pushing 6 VERY comfortably. Plus you get the manager's special each afternoon. I love this hotel. Hampton Inn & Suites - Garden Grove It doesn't have quite the same style continental breakfast but it's still an excellent choice. Hampton has really upped it's service and room styles in the past 5 years. Both these hotels are just down the Harbor in Garden Grove - 10 min max. Superior: ========= I honestly do not think any of these hotels listed are as great as the price. I think you could drop down to a moderate motel and have just as nice an experience or get a better rate at one of the Suite hotels above. I've stay in several of the ones listed for business while in the DL area. Nothing truly outstanding to me. Moderate: ========= Anabella Hotel I have not personally stayed here but several family and friends have and they love it. It's not within walking distance, you'd have to shuttle or drive each day. Best Western Park Place Inn I've been staying at this motel for the past 5 years. It's a no-frills "right across the street" motel. Clean, large rooms with iron/ironing board, microwave and a bigger than normal motel size refrigerator. Candy Cane Inn This is one of my favorite motels. It's on the same side of the street as the Harbor entrance to DL. It's about a 10 minute walk BUT they have their own shuttle. The rooms are VERY nice but on the small side. Very good continental breakfast for a motel. Best out of the group of motels in this category. Carousel Inn & Suites I have several friends who really like this motel. I've heard if you stay on a top floor and toward the back you'll reduce the noise. Hilton Garden Inn I've stayed here once. It's also in Garden Grove right next to the Hampton and Embassy Suites. Very nice but if you are staying in a motel in this category I'd opt for one that was closer to DL. Howard Johnson's Most LP'ers rave about HoJo's and their service. It's a very very nice motel in this category. Nice size rooms, couple of pools and great service. You can receive an LP or AP discount when booking. The rates have been a lot higher the past year then ever before. There's several LP'ers who have recently received the Entertainment Card rate, so that would make for a great deal. For me personally, there's no breakfast of any kind and it's far in my opinion when you're packing little ones. I'd opt for a closer motel. Economy: ======== Travelodge International Inn Friends recently stayed here and it was very clean and neat. Decent prices for this style motel.
