Why do so many think that DCA needs to be a DL Junior? Besides, DCA already has a pretty charming dark ride with Monsters.

Animal Kingdom has no dark rides... they are not ESSENTIAL to a Disney Park. That is why DCA 1.0 was so poorly received... the locals were looking for DL Junior. Think OUTSIDE the box!

No, guests were simply looking to be entertained to the level that Soarin' Over California provided, only throughout the park.

So they actually displayed the plans to make changes to the area at the BSC and then changed took it down and made no more mention of it?

I don't think me making a comment constitues as "so many people" feeling anyway. Just me stating MY opinion on what ***I*** feel would change MY perception on DCA when comparing it to DL. Why do so many people feel like someone else's opinion is any way less valid their their own!?

In my opinion dark rides ARE essential for MY families enjoyment of the parks. If you feel that makes my opinion a wish to "Disney Jr" the parks, maybe that's because a lot of my enjoyment from the parks stems from the enjoyment it brings my two Disney Jr's. So hush your mug!

I agree, but I do think that there are a lot of Southern Californians who have a fanatical emotional attachment to Disneyland and because of it there's nothing Disney can do that will make them like DCA more than the original park.

"So they actually displayed the plans to make changes to the area at the BSC and then changed took it down and made no more mention of it?"

    Yep.

Here's a screen shot of the Hyperion model from one of the Blue Sky Cellar films:

Here's another piece of concept art, which resembles the Tower Theater in Los Angeles:

Apparently a great deal of what was planned for the DCA remodel (a new canopy for King Triton's carousel, a circular pier around the Fun Wheel, a themed queue for Screamin', etc) ended up getting put back on the shelf and the budgets for DCA's tent pole projects (Cars Land, BV Street and WoC) got beefed up a bit. Someone more in the know might be able to elaborate on this.

    Different strokes for different folks...

I think it is WDW's second best park following Epcot.

Your opinion is fine and dandy, as is mine. I just heard many people say that DCA wasn't "Disney enough" when it first opened... I think many locals did have a pre-conceived notion of what a Disney Park should be. As an "outsider" I think I was able to enjoy it more on it's own terms than many of the locals were. JMHO.

And that notion apparently prevailed... the new DCA is much more "Disney" than DCA 1.0.

Apparently you never saw the original cue they built for Muppetvision, huh.

Then perhaps we'll get lucky .. and there's not even a budget to mess with the classics in DL to make them "More relevant to today's youth!" ;)

Lets get one thing straight - There's "thinking outside the box" .. and there's "Building on the Cheap"!

I hardly think a series of off the shelf carnival rides, an inundation of film-based attractions, and Superstar Limo equate - Thinking outside box.

In the words of Endora - REALLY Samantha!
Or in Ethel's terms - Oh Lucy, HONESTLY!

Yes, there are weak areas, but they are minor now compared to the park as a whole. In fact, I'd argue Disneyland's weak areas (Festival Area, ALL of TL) are worse than DCA's (Parts of Hollywood, parts of PP) at this point in time.

They will get attention as the years move on...we don't seriously believe that DCA is never going to get any more new rides or attractions do we?!?!

I don't consider rides like Dinosaur or Indy "dark rides". To me dark rides are more like Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Toad, Snow White, etc. Just as I would never consider Buzz Lightyear or Spaceship Earth dark rides.
