That number has always been used as the benchmark for whether or not DCA had met its attendance goals. Everything else is just conjecture. As far as we know DCA was never supposed to attract more than 7 million guests during its first year.

As the grand opening of DCA 1.0 approached, more and more people were expressing concern about the park as a whole. While Disney was busy spouting marketing drivel and refusing to issue APs that included DCA, the general public was less than thrilled with what was offered. And the people staying away in droves pretty much confirmed that, while it wasn't exactly a failure (hey, haven't we had this discussion before?), it was in no way the wild success that Disney wanted it to be. Flash forward to today, and all of the advance buzz is about not only how they got it right this time but about how wrong it was the first time. I don't see the new DCA being anything less than a smashing success, which will put the pressure on Disney to bring the lacking Hollywoodland up to the higher standard of the rest of the park.

I get a bit nervous they add on more food options because there were too many restaurants/food outlets early on (didn't they have like 19 or so?). However the food options they have now are MUCH better IMO than Disneyland's.
