I guess they couldn't get past the WDW model. I think DCA was a success regardless... if for no other reason than it, combined with Downtown Disney and the GCH, turned Disneyland resort into a true multi-day destination. Now out-of-state tourists would come to Anaheim and spend their entire stay on Disney property rather than spending a couple of days visiting Disneyland Park and then heading up the road to Knott's Berry Farm.

But as the years have pasted they've done a good job at adding stuff. Even tho the 2 smaller rides in Carsland I won't bother with at least it's some thing. Now the park seems balanced with enough for every one to do.
Originally Posted By WorldDisney DCA 1.0 failed on so many levels, its sad just to think about it. It sucked as a Disney park that had no creativity, energy or real imagination. It was cynical theme park building for the lowest budget possible hoping to maximize profits by builing one of the cheapest and tackiest Disney theme parks of a generation. People mocked it, critcized it or worse, avoided it and now 11 years and $1.5 billion later they have finally achieved a worthy park they can call Disney! That first park that had a giant hubcap as its icon and Super Star Limo was suppose to be a star attraction at opening tells you how very, very wrong they got it. No, the lack of attendance told them that! I dont think DCA 2.0 will fail. For one thing, people are excited about what they are seeing. Reviews are positive, there is a lot of fun and exciting things to do and people can now spend more than 3 hours in the place and not feel utterly bored like the first 5 years of 1.0. Its obvious the current regeime wants to wipe out the memory of 1.0 and they are doing EVERYTHING in their power to do just that and turn it around. IMO, they have now! I dont think 2.0 will be a failure like its predecessor based on the amazing crowds the place has and it actually broke records just this past Sunday earning DCA's highest attendance in its short history. THATS a good omen. DCA 1.0 set a record of a different kind...how dead the place was day in and day out the first few years! DCA 2.0 will not have that problem and to be fair hasnt had that problem for a long time now. Again, because it no longer sucks!

It's just a matter of time before they launch some kind of vintage "DCA: The Early Years" exhibit at Blue Sky Cellar or the Disney Gallery. Disney never want you to forget anything because even their worst work can be milked for generations to come.

Trust me someone, Disney or some uber fan, will create a tribute to Superstar Limo and some of the other oddities and duds that were first introduced in 2001. Just look at how much interest there is here in old almost forgotten DL attractions like the Hall of Chemistry and Holidayland.
