DCA has a few great thrill rides, some rides that appeal to little kids, a wide variety of restaurants to appeal to every taste and it looks great. It will never be Disneyland, but it's a good park on it's own.

Originally Posted By Dr Hans Reinhardt "Wow. Did it just totally bomb?" Yeah it was widely panned. Mostly because, as 9oldmen said, it was the only dark ride in the park and didn't offer much in terms of a classic Disney dark ride experience. The fact that it was "in the moment" rather than in the past or the future was the reason that I liked it. I also think its tongue in cheek cheesy stereotypes of LA's Hollywood subculture might of been slightly offensive to some people.

I think if they'd left out the celebs, it would have been addition by subtraction. That's number one. Rumors at the time said it was planned to be faster (like MTWR, but with a limo careening through Hollywood trying to get away from the paparazzi), but Princess Diana's death - in a limo, fleeing paparazzi - nixed that, and it became a slow ride. Perhaps they could have left the paparazzi thing out and just given you a "crazy driver" and given the illusion of speed (like MTWR) - would have been more fun. Instead it became this slow-moving thing with pointless C-list celeb appearances. That overshadowed some actually clever bits to it, mostly in the background. I didn't hate it. I enjoyed it as much as, say, Alice in Wonderland. But it could have been much better.

Its the grand reopening, but it only has to average around 20,000 a day to finally top the 7,000,000 mark and I gotta think per guest spending will be way, way up.

I always wished that they'd just revamped it instead of closing it because it was kind of a clever concept and unique in the history of Disney dark rides. Frankly, Monsters isn't really all that better or a radically different experience, but it has identifiable family friendly characters so most people immediately like it more.
