So much for the next DisCo billion dollar blockbuster.

Lee... one of the MC posters (with a red aloha shirt avatar) is now claiming "a presentation for executives has been scheduled for mid January." The poster also claims that "WDI has something planned that really knocks it 'out of the park'." (I'm assuming he's referring to something beyond the berm, like the Indy show building.)

Any idea if this is true?

Is WDI still pushing for a TRON attraction at DL?

(And is this Baxter's proposal, or another Imagineer's?)

    Thanks.

I am a historian and philosopher by interest, and I find the themes in both of those movies play with the notions of liberty, as well as mentoring and purpose. I love that aspect more than the tech elements to be honest.

I knew there was a reason I liked you, Dave! ;) The secret is that sci fi isn't really about showing off the coolest SFX, it's giving you something to think about. <g> I don't know about you, but I dig stuff like the Blackwell Culture & Philosophy series and the Smart Pop books. I am curious to find out if Tron: Legacy has the chops to make it into one of those series.

But agreed, when it comes to Sci fi, the Star trek universe really is interesting too me as it looks at social trends and predicts the change for the future. I know that Steven Hawking was moved by Star Trek to work out the physics in the series, but I would love to find out how we could evolve to be an egalitarian united federation.

Me too, but sadly, just like on Star Trek, I think it would probably take an alien spaceship arriving before we can finally get all of humanity united under a common government. And even then, I'm still not sure it would work out...

MC? I know of no exec presentation - all of us will be in FL for the Disney Dream launch so no idea who will be left. I guess there could be some TDO pitch.

There have been plenty of ideas bouncing around for DL - but management just won't commit any capital dollars until the next phase of DCA begins to bear fruit - if Little Mermaid continues the trend set by WoC then DL will hit the capacity wall - and hard. Success brings its own headaches.

Interesting about everyone being in FL for the launch of Dream. Does make you wonder which executives will be receiving this TRON attraction presentation.

    Thanks, Lee.

Lots of finger-pointing - the movie still isn't through $200m globally and some of the international markets have been very soft - the UK and Japan in particular. Ultimately it still has some markets to open in and it will continue to play for a few more weeks but it is running out of gas - and looks unlikely to get even close to its production costs.

And it isn't unique - virtually all of the family movies over the holidays failed to connect for some reason.

Ah - gotcha. I'm not familiar with that site at all.

The Dream is a huge deal for WDP&R - and the sales for this year have been soft so far - DCL is such an important engine of growth for the division that they can't afford to let it struggle. The launch is a massive event - a lot of travel agents are attending to help push the three ships.

Again the studio that put out True Grit must really be happy now. #2 at the box office and it is on its way to potentially being the biggest grossing Western of all time. Will be interesting once we get to award season how many nominations it gets.
