Fortunately, both airports in Houston now have "real" restaurants airside in the terminals, in addition to the typical airport fast food vendors. I like getting to the airport early as I find having no question of making the flight and having ample time to deal with any issues that come up make for a much more pleasant experience. Also, this tends to mean that I have time to eat a proper meal before the flight, and now that there are lots of solid options in many airports, it's not that I have to eat "airport food" in order to do so. Airside is important to me as I view the security checkpoint as the final hurdle of unknowns in getting to a flight. Once I'm past security, I know exactly how long it will take me to get to the gate, and I can plan for things like food accordingly.
