Okay this is really important, if you haven't seen Big Momma's House, then don't see the sequel. Because you might not be able to follow why Martin Lawrence is in a fat suit. I mean you didn't watch the Empire Strikes Back before A New Hope. Truthfully and I'm embarassed to say this, but I laughed several times and out loud at that. At night: Strangers On A Train Rental This is good Hitchcock, not great Hitchcock.

Despite some flaws, this is the ulitmate mood and atmosphere for Lewis's Narnia. It's storybook-charming and doesn't try to be so overadventurous and epic like the WaldenMedia version does. So my sister and I, and other fans out there, much prefer this BBC version since it really gets the "feel" so much better---and this is only enhanced by the small chamber-like ensemble of instruments which is the soundtrack. A perfect marriage of music, atmosphere, and mood (nice three-way there). I love how it pretty much literally brings the book to life, I love the sets of The Witch's "house" (i.e., castle) and Mr. Tumnus's cave, the professor's house, and the small, snowy-then-springy country of humble Narnia. Sophie Cook does a wonderful job as Susan (my favorite character). I also love how her weapons, and other weapons and medieval accessories/costumes look. Barbara Kellerman can really be ridiculously over-the-top as The White Watch (a friend of mine calls her "the Community Theatre Reject"), but she does have some very effective moments. The animated elements don't mix in well, but this was late 80s BBC, and they tried their best with what they had. The best adapted version of the tale there is IMO, and one to be treasured. Prince Caspian Own the DVD (BBC *ONLY!*) No edibles This is "eh". It's only an hour, whereas LWW is 2 hours and 40 minutes, so soooooo much is left out. It's nice to see, but it's just too vague and fast a retelling to properly do the book justice. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Own the DVD (BBC *ONLY!*) Yellow Corn Chips, chili cheese dip made with chili mixed with Velveeta (it didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped---I should stick with Hormel chili with No Beans instead of the new stuff I tried) After the disappointment of PC, it's so nice to get back to a really wonderfully-made production, worthy to be called a sequal to one such as LWW. At an hour and 40 minutes-ish, this is very faithful to the book, much like LWW. The Dawn Treader ship is really neat, and I love the high seas adventure. All the different episodes are so interesting to see brought to life on-screen. The only dull moment I found was ironically the most action-packed---a scene with the ship in a storm at sea. There just wasn't enough going on, it felt kinda draggy and repeated. Most of the actors do wonderful jobs, and the various islands and sunny seas and rain keep things always fresh and interesting and entertaining. (note: PC and VDT are actually one "film" entitled "Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader", but the way the disc is, it's broken up into the two separate books---which is nice because in the future I will want to watch VDT much more than PC)

At 169 minutes it's an extremely worthy adaptation of C.S. Lewis's book, much like "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe". We had snow shurries (between showers and flurries) last night and this morning, so it was atmospheric for watching certain parts of it. Wonderful settings and costumes, mostly great acting, some really well-done effects (and a couple of cheesy ones, but it's late 80s BBC). A definite Narnian gem.
