Much better seeing it this time than when it was newer on dvd. I have to say though as good Lemon and Matthau's other films together were, I liked them much better in this film. As funny as they are fighting, I liked how they got along a little better in this one. They were more like close friends than friends who got on each others nerves, and something about that I found just as pleasant to watch. And Dyan Cannon was great too.

It's too bad that another director could have used the same screenplay and made a much tauter film. Fincher is too willing to sacrifice substance for atmosphere. I hate that the crucial action sequences are impossible to follow, and that the "religion" aspect of the film is handled in such a cartoon-like fashion. Still, a fun movie and a really nice stark contrast to its predecessor. Christmas Day "Transformers" Nephews' new DVD Ham sandwich, vegetables, cookies, assorted other munchies What a surprising treat! I really enjoyed this movie! Still, I realized for the first time ever about a movie, "This is flawed by design." The producers proved that they could have made a GREAT kids' movie, or a GREAT adolescent movie, or a GREAT serious sci-fi film. Instead, they went for "appeal to all." So we get a decent drama that stops to make pee jokes (for the kids) and makes cartoon characters of the parents (for the adolescents). And several scenes are way too talky and/or clumsily comedic. It could have chosen an audience and been an awesome "A" movie. Instead, it dilutes itself for broader appeal but still ends up with a "B." It was a great choice for our 8- to 57-year-old crowd. "Live Free or Die Hard" Nephews' new DVD More grazing from the Christmas buffet Entirely predictable, thoroughly improbable, and totally enjoyable. Tonight "Hairspray" Rented the DVD Chardonnay Man, what a disappointment. This version lacked both the bite and the sweetness of the original film. The plot wasn't compelling, the musical numbers had little punch, and Travolta in a fat suit was just bland. Wish I would have rented something else. Semi-redeeming factor (for straight guys): Michelle Pfiefer is HOT.

Like most films I don't know or may have partial interest in for whatever reason, it felt like I was just sitting there not knowing what the heck this is, but they do (I mean I've seen pictures, posters, heard of it, but that was it). But before I knew it, a short while later, I was already following along and appreciating the story. The slugs were as cute as they were hilarious. I only got to watch it to the point where Roddy & Rita became even better friends when he gave her the real ruby he promised her, Rita realizes Roddy is really alone, then he tries to hide it when the rat that flushed him comes up to his room. And that's when we had to stop the movie, as my friend came into the room and told her kids it was time to go.

Didn't think Brucie still had it in him, but he didn't disappoint. I think I liked it better than the last couple of Die Hard movies.

It could have used a new script. The idea was certainly interesting but I ended up being bored much of the time, even if the pictures were pretty and ended up feeling like it was a pretentious load of crap. I suppose that I should be greatful that someone tried something different but it is sad that it had to be so different that it didn't really work. Hugh Jackmand (whom I have not seen hardly anything of) was excellent, even if I didn't care for the person he was portraying.

So did DH. Fantasy, about a compass that is sort of a truth-o-meter given to a girl who is foretold to come. (Does that make sense?)
