I was really excited for this before it was released and after seeing it I was a bit dissapointed just for the fact that every reason worth shelling out 12 bucks for the movie has been offered up on a digital silver platter by Focus. Every funny joke is in the trailer and the Rock Me Sexy Jesus number has been put online in its entierty by the studio. This really should have been the ace in the hole and sadly it was played before even the hand was dealt. But I mean I can't fault the movie too much for those sins, i'm sure I would have loved the movie so much more if every little gem hadnt been ruined for me before hand. If you havent seen any trailers or tv spots for it go see it, you'll have a blast. Otherwise maybe wait for video...

There was some level of parody of those movies, but most of the gags and references were related to all of the movies (not just disaster movies) that have come out in the last 3-6 months or so (Sex and the City, Iron Man, the Hulk, Speed Racer, Indiana Jones, Wanted, Kung Foo Panda, Prince Caspian, the Dark Knight, Hancock, etc) and a few others from last year or earlier this year including Alvin and the Chipmunks, Juno, Enchanted, and others. Most of these movies had not even been released when they were filming disaster movie, so they either got a sneak peek of the movies, or they were doing the parodies based on the trailers... It wouldn't surprise me if this is all they did, as most of the references were very basic. They had more pop-culture references than disaster movie references. They made fun of American Gladiators, My super sweet 16, Amy Winehouse, Jessica Simpson, Dr Phil, High School Musical, and even some television commercials. There were a few references to twister (cows falling on people and things), Armageddon, and the Day after Tomorrow, but really not that many. There are a lot more disaster movies from over the years that are just begging to be paradied. This movie could have been a great parody in my opinion, but I think they failed horribly.
