Utterly amazing. As much as I loved the theatrical release, this is a far superior film. Laurie/Silk Spectre II's character was really fleshed out well, and I found myself liking her more. We get to see more of the Comedian's dark side. Best of all, though, are the additional scenes of Rorschach. Jackie Earle Haley shows again how he is in a class by himself. He is just utterly amazing, and he breaks my heart every time I watch the film (of special note is the extra footage of his interview with Dr. Long in prison; I learned over the weekend from the Comic Con reports that Jackie was quite sick when they filmed that scene, and it just makes the performance all the more amazing).

    Okay, enough gushing on Watchmen.

    Last night:
Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence
    own it on DVD

I watched this while chatting with some of my fellow Jackie fans on Skype, and we had a blast! The film, unfortunately, is quite horrible. The plot is virtually non-existant, there is far too many scenes of people walking around, the dialogue is painful at times, and there are so many insane, over the top explosions. Jackie's the best thing in the film, and I'm so glad this didn't end up being his last film. He deserves better than for his last film to literally end on the sound of a toilet flushing.

If you want to see a crazy B-movie, Maniac Cop 3 is for you. Be sure to watch it with friends, though. It's a lot of fun that way, MST3King your way through it. You WILL believe a zombie cop can drive a car while on fire!

I LOVED this movie. I had heard all the hype and now I understand why. I bawled like a baby at the end.

    The Watchmen - Directors Cut
    DVD

So dark and filled with such emotion. I loved the fact that the line between hero and villian is not a matter of black and white as in so many other comic book adaptations.

They never should have cut that scene from the original. It just absolutely defines Rorschach.

It was good. A little creepy. The girl that played Esther (the orphan) was really good.

I had my issues with it and really wished they'd foregone manufacturing scenes out of whole cloth (the tube station, the Burrow) in favor of more salient plot points that were left out.

The young actors have come a long way and were fabulous in their roles. The woman who played Narcissa was not as desperate as I read the character to be in the book.

Honestly, I'm a little disapointed. For an Apatow movie i'd expect some incredible comedy mixed with really well developed characters and be deeply invested in the lives and situations.
Funny People is an overly important drama (The comedy here is quite light and most of it is jammed together in the trailers) The rest of the film is about Sandlers character dying of a rare blood disease and well... thats about it. His character is so overhwelmingly unlikable its hard to care much about his journey coming to terms with his death, and his protege played by Seth Rogan is so underdeveloped that going through the story from his point of view is difficult.
Also Rogan and Sandler have no comedic chemestry together at all and most of their scenes together come off as awkward and forced. Most of the movie has almost a pointless feel. Leslie Mann is great as always but has little to do in the movie than be maniplulated by Sandlers complete bas**** of a character.
Oddly enough though, it's difficult for me to pan the movie outright, and I wouldnt discourage anyone from seeing it that was initially interested. But the movie has a lot of problems and a lot of them stem from Sandlers outward/self destructive character and its difficult to derive much entertainment watching for 2 and a half hours watching him doing everything he can to destroy his own and others lives.

It was wonderful just as expected. I cried at the end. Don't know who I'm crying for more Dumbledore or Snape.

Right now I'm watching Mamma Mia as I've never seen it before.

It's like they tried to take the edginess of the original, dial it up by 10, but it just came off as lame.

The original, on the other hand, is just wonderful. I'm finding I love it more and more each time I watch it, and not just for Jackie Earle Haley as Kelly Leak. :)
