Pretty slim plot, but it had some funny lines (like the roommate's quote "I want to have his adopted babies.") It was the pacing and visuals that made it fun to watch. It made me think a bit about this other movie I really like, "Garage Days." It is a rather visually stylistic film, but, in this case, looks like a music video.

The Phantom Menace-The most maligned of the Star Wars films and it's easy to see why. It easily has the worst story of the six films. The first 20 minutes are pretty bad I actually don't mind Jar Jar as much but the Charlie Chan Nemoidians and the roger roger battle droids leave me puzzled throughout the prequels. But once they take off for Tatooine the film picks up considerably. The podrace is still fun my only real quibble with this part is Obi-Wan is left with nothing to do. The scenes on Coruscant leave some groundwork for what's to come, however the Yoda puppet is not good. The final battle is reminiscent of Return of the Jedi with multiple battles happening, four in this case. The best is easily the three way lightsaber battle between Obi-Wan, Qui Gon Jin and Darth Maul. All in all the film is fun but it's something I could easily just pick out the key parts next time I watch. B- Attack of the Clones-Clones is kind of a schizophrenic film. You have a painful to watch love story between Anakin and Padme, but that is balanced out by a terrific detective story by Obi-Wan which are some of my favorite moments in the series. And to be fair the Anakin/Padme stuff gets better when they come back to Tatooine. Surround that with some increasingly interesting machinations of Palpatine(look in his office you can already see the red guards) And when the film comes to Geonosis it becomes a lot of fun. I still get a kick out of Yoda fighting for the first time. Despite the problems with the Anakin/Padme portion I would recommend it. B+ Revenge of the Sith-Now this is what I hoped the first two prequels would be. While they are fun, this one has the heart that was missing. People give Hayden Christensen crap and he's not a great actor, but I think he does quite well here. McGregor and especially Ian McDarmid are just fantastic. And the last hour of this film is just fantastic. Lucas was once an editor and it shows they way the film is cut together was award worthy. After A New Hope and Empire, this might be my favorite of the series. A A New Hope-The film that started it all. What's amazing after watching it is after the prequels it's a nice palate cleanser. It's just a simple story extremely well told. This is the heart of the series and it's one of the great achievements in cinema. A+ Empire Strikes Back-If ANH is the heart then Empire is the soul. I could go on and on about how this film is about as close to perfect as you can get. It is without a doubt the best acted, best written, best directed film of the series. And it took risks. Not many films at the time had the good guys lose. Not many chose to go this dark. It is a mature smart film that rewards the viewer each time. Memo to Hollywood this is how you do a sequel, sometimes you succeed, Dark Knight, Toy Story 2 and 3 but more often than not we're left to scratch our heads. Whenever I come up with a list of my favorite films Empire usually occupies spot 1 or 2, after watching it again, I don't see going anywhere. A+ Return of the Jedi-As the follow up to one of the most perfect movies ever Jedi was bound to be a let down. And it is, but that doesn't mean it's not a terrific film. The Jabba's palace scenes tend to bore me know and the additions are pretty glaring. And the Ewoks well they're there. But it contains the best space battle of the series with the attack on the second death star. And the Luke/Vader/Palpatine conflict is just amazing. It's a nice end to the series but it just had a tough task of following Empire. A-

I LOVED these, and really see why EVERYONE went so gaga over Heath Ledger's performance. Just astounding! I had one little problem, though - Maggie Gyllenhall as a hot chick? Really? Handsome woman, yes, but not hot chick. Super 8 Alamo Drafthouse just a Coke - no pizza this time since it was a 10:30 am showing and I had breakfast at 9 I really liked this - give it an 8/10 and proud that I spotted two anachronisms. Funny to me: Matt, age 29, thought it was going to be a super hero movie or something as he had not previously heard of a Super 8 camera, and I had to tell him as we were walking back to the car that the movie name came from the camera the kid were using! LOL Right now I'm looking forward to tomorrow morning when I get to see The Green Lantern... and THANK YOU to Symantec for the event where I'll be seeing it!
