I didn't get that myself, but I may just be more tolerant since it's a sports movie, even if the 'sport' is baseball.

Personally I had little direct experience with it... in the Twin Cities suburb where I lived we had exactly ONE black kid in a High School with 2,500 students. He was very good looking, extremely intelligent and treated like something of a rock-star by the other students. Although there was (and is) no formal segregation in the Twin Cities, it remains one of the most segregated large cities in America.
