I just watched Saban's Power Rangers. What a truly terrible movie that was. They totally messed up the tone of the show and made it about five misfit teenagers with lots of drama. They didn't even get into their outfits and battle the badly done CG monster until the last ten minutes of the movie. Why couldn't they find 20 somethings that knew how to act? They all looked way too old to be in high school. The things they discussed had no reason to be in a show targeted to ten year olds.
From what I've heard, they should have just kept it true to form and used it as more of a tribute to the old series. I was never a fan but I can see why it would appeal to certain audiences. I AM a fan of Elizabeth Banks though.
That's a bummer about Power Rangers. I missed the majority of the hype of them growing up, but I have to admit I always liked the Yellow Power Ranger over the Pink one even if she did have the same name as me. Is the movie trying to reboot the original Rangers or were they just grasping at straws since Hollywood can't come up with anything original anymore?
It's your basic super hero origin story. Spoilers as if anyone would watch this: The pink, red and blue rangers all meet in detention. The blue ranger helps the red range remove his house arrest ankle bracelet that he got for stealing the rival school's mascot cow. It seems the red ranger doesn't know the cow is a bull and tries to milk it and gets caught. The pink ranger gets caught distributing compromising pictures of her friend on social media. They all decide to go to a gold mine where they catch the black ranger spying on the yellow ranger while she does yoga. It seems the yellow ranger is a lesbian but that fact is ignored. They all find these coins that give them super powers. The coins lead them to a crashed space ship. It seems the green ranger killed the original rangers and now wants this gem buried under the Crispy Cream donuts shop so she can blow up the planet. The rangers go though a lot of training and teenager ankhs. They then battle the green ranger's gold monster and save the planet.
Wow...seems like the green ranger has some issues. LOL! Definitely don't need to see the movie now. Thanks @Phrubruh !
Ooooh...I didn't realize she was a ranger!! That makes a little more sense now...LOL! Now I'm all discombobulated in my power ranger thought process...wasn't the green ranger originally a good guy. I want to say that was Tommy in the original, but he got to change colors a couple of times I think. Holy moly...I'm feeling rather geekish right now.
As I remember Rita Repulsa created the Green Ranger to fight against the others. The Green Ranger went to the light side and helped the Rangers. In this movie, Rita is the Green Ranger that kills off the other Rangers at the time of the dinosaurs. Zordon was an original Red Ranger but before he dies he gets sucked into the spaceship wall and wants the new Rangers to become powerful enough to free him.
Wow...color me impressed!! Over the weekend I watched Annabelle : Creation and the new Jumanji movie. Both were good in their own right, and I appreciated the little nods Jumanji did to the original movie to commemorate Robin Williams.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople. From Netfix on DVD. Cute little New Zealand movie that really shows what lengths CPS will go to; once they sink in their fangs.
Finally saw The Greatest Showman on Mother's Day. From Redbox We had just had a huge lunch so no snacks. Fun fact: My kids went to school and one was in choir with Keala Settle. (I was her choir teacher, though only 5 times as I was a substitute.LOL)
I had been waiting for the release of "Wait For Your Laugh" the documentary on Rose Marie. She died just a couple of months after its initial and limited release. I'm glad she got to see the finished product. She had an amazing life. Such a great story. The documentary is loaded with film from her private collection. We got the digital download at home. Popcorn and wine were involved.
Last week, I got my DVD of TRON back (I'd loaned it to a pastor who was fond of incorporating movies into her sermons), and so before putting it away, I saw it again. It still holds up, and will probably still be remembered when TRON: Legacy is long forgotten.
I remember seeing Tron in the theatre with my dad when I was a kid. I will always have fond memories of this movie even though it wasn't the best, and I will still watch it if it ever is on TV.
Deadpool 2 - Pretty darn awesome movie! I also enjoyed the trailer for The Happytime Murders...hehe. Cinetopia w/ my stepson as a late Mother's Day outing It was my first Mother's Day that he celebrated with me...color me SUPER happy!!
A special showing of Casablanca at a nearby theatre. My daughter asked me if I wanted to go. Of course, I said YES! It was a nearly packed house. Only a few seats down front were left vacant. Popcorn, Junior Mints, and a soda~~The tradition lives on.
Incredibles 2 - Cinetopia with my dad for Father's day Fish & Chips and Dark Horse red blend (me) Philly Cheesesteak wrap and 14 Hands Merlot (dad) We both enjoyed the movie a lot. We had watched the original 14 years ago in the theatre, so there was some nostalgia for us. All I can say is Jack Jack is AWESOME!!!
