I'm not absolutely certain, but I'm pretty sure the flyer for TW digital cable indicated that the digital cable box is only required to receive the digital cable channels (channels over 100).

it all depends on the way you use your internet. Do you stream alot of hi-def video or do you just read message boards? Frequently I am doing large file transfers so the the speed really helps me. But you are right, for most internet users 768down/128up is just fast enough. However if you are serving any kind of vidoes than 128up just sucks,

Back when I was doing peeaanuut radio I only had a 1.5down/768up. Which was fast enough for me, but would have drop outs if more than 20 people connected. I than got mirror sites to help spread the bandwidth but if any of those mirrors was down, the station would begin to lag.

Also, most people really do incoming. Vary rarely do they need alot of outgoing speed. (yes you are always sending out going, but you know what I mean)

Also, some of the restrictions that DSL sites put on are rediculous. Especially those login style services. Those are rediculous.

DSLExtreme seems to be OK with servers running on your DSL (according to their website), and I recall someone mentioning another company whose policy is along the lines of "It's your bandwidth. Do whatever you want with it, even if you want to share it with your neighbors." but I can't remember the name of that company!

Sympatico has a version of FIOS but then i'd have caps. :(

I'd pay too much if I had caps.

    The price deal...

You save $5 a month if you buy two of their three services (Cable, Modem and Phone), $15 a month if you get all three.

The Basic Digital Cable Package is $44.95 and includes one of 6 tiers, and the other tiers are $5 more.

DVR service is from $4.95 to $9.95 a month.

    As for the Cable Modem

    There are three choices

    Basic is $34.95 a month (1.5 Mbps x 384 Kbps)

    Standard is $44.95 a month (6 Mbps x 512 Kbps)

    Extreme is $54.95 a month (10 Mbps x 1 Mbps)

Also, Time Warner has dropped the charge if you want to "rent" a modem, they now will provide one for free.

I have had Time Warner for years in San Diego, and have been quite happy with their service.

I have had friends how have had dishes and hated it, and switched back to cable.

    Cable Modems are awesome!!!! :)

Isn't it nice how modems don't really need heatsinks and don't really warm up?
