I agree. I always saw it as Jason Alexander being the right side of Quasi's brain (crazy and impulsive), Charles Kimbrough being the left side of the brain (stuffy and logical), and Laverne being the mother he never had.

I totally agree with the 100 yard dash scene as a true WOW. I popped it in last night just for that, and wound up watching the whole durn movie. I would nominate the whole scene where Elastigirl infiltrates the compound as a great big silent WOW. It's animation at its best.

I also second the F2K stuff. Rhapsody in Blue, I think, is the best cartoon short the studio ever made. It's just perfect. The whales give me chills. But also, when the firebird rises up to his fullest height..WOW, especially in IMAX.

My biggest wow-exclamation-point came during the IMAX Treasure Planet. When the ship comes bursting through the portal, triumphant music blaring, wow is the only word to describe it.

In a somewhat similar vein to TheRedhead's "right brain"/"left brain"/mother theory, treating the gargoyles as manifestations of Quasi's id (Hugo), ego (Laverne), and superego (Victor) makes their presence in the movie more tolerable for me... but, "imaginary" or not, "A Guy Like You" still sticks out like a sore thumb, especially when compared to "Hell Fire," "Heaven's Light," "Out There," and the film's other moving, thoughtful songs.

It'd be pretty hard to tell Disney to make an animated feature knowing that kids wouldn't like it. That would be cutting their own throat.

No offense to the film makers, but that's hardly a justification for adding a story-point in a movie. If 'kids squirming in their seats' was a reason to create a scene, there'd be nothing but farts, burps and bright colors.

HoND is one of a handful of films I'd love to have seen geared towards a slightly different audience and released by Touchstone. Kind of like NBX, no need to stop it being a family film, just perhaps not geared towards a younger audience in the way other Disney films are.

Atlantis would also be on that list. Atlantis was a missed opportunity to make a cult animated epic, imho!!!

Well I was going to say that my last WOW was the opening of Lion King, but I had totally forgotten about Fantasia 2000 - my mouth was hanging open through most of that movie! Nemo was another one - some of the coral shots were amazing.

I won't comment on Hunchback as I really like Kar2oonMan and don't want to lose him as a friend! ;o)

I have to agree with the anti-Guy Like You crowd...I think the film shouldnt have been aimed at kids in the first place...the song isnt bad, it just doesnt belong with the rest of the film...

That's the problem with Disney films today, they're intended more for kids...I love reading about the Golden Age and those classic years of long ago when Disney animation was regarded as a fantastic, imaginative realm of fantasy and creativity...*sigh*...

My first wow moment was in the movie that got me back into Disney, "The Rescuers Down Under" - Cody's rescue of Marahute and the flying sequence that followed. That is the closest that I have felt to flying and still is an oustanding sequence to me.

"Beauty and the Beast" also had a lot of wow moments (but then again, this is my favorite movie) - the beginning (stained glass as a storytelling device? Neat!) to the appearance of Beast to Belle to the final transformation, which is something that still gets me every time...because Belle recognizes Beast's eyes.

"Fantasia 2000" had a wow in the Firebird suite - the last scenes - themusic, the animation it all became a jam session of artists that combined to create something truly special.

The "Tarzan" scenes mentioned before were great too.

The racing scenes in 'Cars' are amazing! (I had the opportunity to see the entire film last weekend at Pixar.)

Incredible camera work around the racetrack, especially the closeups of the cars themselves while racing. So freakin' realistic!

The Nascar Dads are all going to wet themselves during these scenes. Guaranteed.
