As Mumford and Gordon wrote, "The illusions at Disneyland are nothing more than a thin veneer--and it's one that can easily be scratched away. When it's gone, you lose that special sense of reality that makes fantasy better." Certain scoffers on this board and others have no comprehension of this concept. Year after year, the veneer of reality that actually made the fantasy better has been peeled away. Disneyland is becoming a parody of itself. And apparently, that's "acceptable."
Originally Posted By Dr Hans Reinhardt "Certain scoffers on this board and others have no comprehension of this concept." Whatever. As lovely as it is Sleeping Beauty Castle is purely a Hollywood invention masterminded by Walt Disney's motion picture studio artists. Do an image search for "medieval castle" and and learn something. "Disneyland is becoming a parody of itself." I agree with you on this point.
Originally Posted By smd4 >>>Do an image search for "medieval castle" and and learn something<<< Need to work on that reading comprehension, Hans. I never wrote that it was modeled after a medieval castle.

To me, the Alice platforms (which lasted WAY too long) were egregious. Hated them the first time I saw them, and when I rode it, hated them even more. Bad, bad, bad, bad show. This castle railing? While I'd prefer it not be there and I'm certainly not crazy about it, I can't consider it in the same class. There are degrees. You have some people who are so crazed they will actually go ballistic over the notion that the green on the Mickey figure's coat at the top of Silly Symphony Swings was not the same as that used in The Band Concert. (I'm not making that up.) Try pointing out that a 3D figure meant to be viewed from 25 feet below is different from a 2D drawing meant to be viewed straight on and that a lighter shade might make it "pop" more and actually be a good choice... and risk being called a "defender of mediocrity" by self-appointed guardians of something or other. We're here to discuss opinions on the park. Unless they're flat-out inaccurate, most opinions are just opinions and are perfectly valid. I may think you're crazy if you think Space Mountain is better with a soundtrack because I really preferred it with just the ambient sound, but it's a valid opinion nonetheless. We need to have a little respect for each other and state our opinions without making it personal.
