But my opinion is that if I'm coming to Disney I should get Disney quality attractions. Not a Coaster I can ride at the Jersey Shore or a Dumbo Rehash. That said Im not going to Trash Dinorama but I'm not going to Partake either. Unless Disney gets the idea that throwing some props up on stock carny rides should be the norm....Then we will have a problem

Triceratop Spin is a nicely themed spinner and they added enough props to Primeval Whirl (plus intertwined two separate coasters) to make it much better than Mulholland at DCA. If this was all Dinoland was about, I would complain, but I think it adds a fun touch to the rest of what is there. I'd rather see them add a few more themed rides here than anywhere else in AK (as was rumored a few years back with Flik's Fun Fair).

How are the Tea Cups different from hundreds of spinning tub rides found outside WDW, rather than throwing some props up on a stock carny ride? How is Dumbo any different from the "control the height yourself" attraction I rode as a child at my local zoo... the only difference being the zoo used helicopters instead of elephants? How are the Indy Race Cars any different from the gasoline powered cars found at almost any park in the U.S.? I don't think the problem with DCA is that they used carny rides at Paradise Pier. It is that there are so few rides OTHER than the carny rides at DCA. As long as the carny rides are a small percentage of the total, I don't see a problem with it.

Could they have themed the place at a higher level - sure, but then would it really be a carnival atmosphere ? No. The idea is to buy into the concept --a cheap canival thrill while the meteor that's going to end it all for the dinosaurs bears down on the planet - Dinorama tome is the kids section of AK....a place for the kiddies to have fun in more than a playground atmosphere. Triceratops Spin = Dumbo.

Thanks vb for filling in the dots. You know after going to DAK for several years now Dinoland never made sence to me. After you just explained it to me, I think the concepts sucks. Gee lets teach our children to celebrate death, distruction and extinction.

I don't think the kiddies are into the psychological influences of celebrating death...but really, i have a whole different view of it after losing a few friends at young ages....and then a close friend a few years ago. I was raised Catholic with all the rituals surrounding death marked by depression and grief etc....my friend who passed very unexpectedly a few years ago left strict instructions this was not to be the case at his funeral... he was cremated ( and yes he was Catholic brought up also) - and his wife and kids had a ceremony for him -- attended by over 500 people - all of the teams fromthe volleyball club his daughters played for attended ( he played in college as did his wife also) - many of them spoke about him, he had his choice of music playing during the 5 hours visitation....one brother dressed in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt ( his favorite attire) - --well you get the drift-- And although we were all sad he was gone,we celebrated who he was when he has alive.....the ceremony moved me so much it changed my opinion on the whole ordeal. yes he had a mass said, and his pastor attended etc....but that was not the theme. I have since written instructions for myself the same way. So I guess I ask, if today you turned on the TV ( think Bowie song from the 70's 5 Years) - and they said that there was a huge meteor headed to Earth - no way around it - was going to strike in 3 months - and all was going to end. ( and No Bruce Willis wasn;t going to fly up and destroy it) - how would be all react ?

And it doesn't even do a good job of that. The Universe of Engergy is a much better representation of the life of Dinosaurs. OK, so lets just say that the concept, a giant meteor is coming to earth and its going to wipe out the dinosaurs. Then why show happy ( young ) dinosaurs gleefully playing when destruction is on its way? I know I'm being cynical.... but Dinoland is in no way a metaphore for positive role modeling of death, grief and loss. AND I'm not at DAK to learn positive role modeling regarding bereavement.

The idealic setting of all WDW is meant to be an escape from realism, not a symbollic representation. Agreed ?
