Oh oh. And I love Atlantis too. It's very much a boy comic-book-movie. I was totally shocked by the reviews.

    I love to love.

More thought for the "overall picture" seems to have to be made when making an animated feature. It seems like it would be more hassle to "redo" a scene with an animated picture.

The Little Mermaid: I thought this was a really good film and would be up there with Disney's best. I love the music.

Rescuers Down Under: Haven't seen it - only 1 of about 2 Disney animated films I haven't seen. We have it on VHS, I've just never gotten around to it. The few bits I've seen look great though.

BatB: Right up there with the best. I prefer it to all of the older "Princess" features except Sleeping Beauty. It would be on a par with that for me.

Aladdin: Really didn't like it at all. Carpet was the best thing in it for me.

    TLK: Overrated, but fun.

Pocahontas: I watched this again recently and fell in love with it all over again. Also the songs are great.

HoND: Absolutely love this film. It's my favorite Animated Feature ever. If you haven't seen it I urge you to watch it and if you have seen it I urge you to watch it. I pick up something new each time and I've seen it countless times. Also, how the score didn't win an Oscar is one of the great injustices of our time.

Hercules: Fun, but forgettable. Loved the music and the Muses.

Mulan: Another personal fave. Even Eddie Murphy doesn't put me off! One of the few films to consistently make me cry.

Tarzan: The animation was stunning, but not one I love to be honest. I thought I'd hate the songs, but I can't tell you how often I find myself humming one of them and I don't own the soundtrack and I haven't watched it in years!

TENG: Very funny and well paced, but the least Disney feeling movie (probably ever) for me.

Atlantis: Such a wasted opportunity. I really like parts of it, but the unfocused storyline has to put it towards the bottom of this list.

L&S: Sorry, if I'm getting these later ones in the wrong order. Again I think this is a great movie and would rank high in my personal top 10. This is what a modern Disney movie should be. Makes me cry.

Brother Bear: I think I've only seen this once or twice and I enjoyed it, but would say that for me this is one of the weaker ones recently. I thought it went downhill fast once we enter the animal world. I think it would make a great Theme Park attraction though.

Treasure Planet: I love this movie and would rank it in my top 5, possibly my top 5 movies from any studio ever.

HOTR: I watched this recently and really enjoyed it. The plots as thin as a wafer and it needed a better villain, but it has some genuinely funny moments and some genuinely heartfelt moments and some of Alan Menkens nicest songs.

Chicken Little: It's ok. I actually didn't mind the spin they put on the plot, because lets face it the original is hardly Hamlet. I just struggled with the "animals in our world" thing. Are they in a parallel universe? Are they in a town in our world? Does our world exist? Interestingly enough this has never bothered me with cars!

So there you go, if I had to pick a top 5 it would be (in no order) HoND, TP, L&S, Mulan and then several others could fight for that last space.

    So now you know!!!

Let me preface by saying I like every one of these films, except for Chicken Little, which I consider just okay.

Top entries from 1986 on, in order, are:

Great Mouse Detective--I just love it utterly. Basil is my favorite character ever, Disney or otherwise. I know parts of it were rushed, but I can't help being charmed, amused, captivated & more over and over again. It's not a film, it's an obsession.

Aladdin--Great all around film with comedy & action, menace & triumph, great characters, great songs, etc.

Little Mermaid--Wonderful realization of fantasy worlds, visually exhilirating, can't touch the score.

Tarzan--Although I still don't like the songs or Tarzan's hair, there's plenty to love in this film. It helps that it was made from my second-favorite novel of all time. Tarzan the character is perfectly realized, unlike earlier film Tarzans. And the best work Glen Keane has ever done.

Atlantis--Excellent example of my favorite genre, science fantasy. Just filled with one cool bit after another.

Mulan--This film has it all. I'm amazed at anyone who doesn't like it.

Emperor's New Groove--The animation may look at first glance like something from another studio, but pay attention, it's kicked up a notch to meet the standard we expect from Disney. Tons of fun.

Treasure Planet--Majestic, erudite, and lovely. It takes my breath away.

Fantasia/2000--I feel guilty likeing it more than the original, but there it is. The Rhapsody in Blue segment is, indeed, perfect.

Wow, this was harder than I thought. I really do like Hunchback, Lilo & Stitch, Rescuers Down Under, Beauty & the Beast, Home on the Range, Lion King, Brother Bear, Pocahontas, Oliver & Co., & Hercules, but had to stop somewhere.

Unlike the original Fantasia there is not a single segment that I couldn't watch over and over again. I always cry during Rhapsody in Blue and the Carnival of the Animals is hilarious. I wish they'd continued with a third!!!

Starting this thread made me want to watch some of the older Disney movies I have. I had Snow White on VHS but i'd like it on DVD. I'd also like to get Cinderella.

I saw the Great Mouse Detective and loved it. It's been years since I've seen it. I also love Lady and the Tramp. Disney movies are just so beautiful. I asked Dave to get me Fantasia for Christmas. I hope he does, as I really want to see it.

IMO you're missing a lot. Do yourself a favor and see them, especially Mulan and Hunchback.
