She was raised in Brooklyn, her mother was born in America, to Italian immigrants, her father immigrated from Italy in 1906. He passed away when she was 6; and she wasn't exposed to this "recent" immigrant family. Her family, which was the family that came to America before her mother was born, spoke primarily Italian. They would speak English to non-Italian speakers but Italian amongst themselves. And I remember my Grandma on the other side of the family saying a similar thing, about life in Milwaukee. Even though my great-grandparents were the immigrants (and some of them were children); their primary language was Polish. It wasn't until my parents generation that the language was dropped. My Dad remembers no one wanting to teach the kids Polish, because that what everyone spoke when they wanted to keep "secrets." It wasn't about assimilation. So basically, it took 40-50 years for my families to treat English as their primary language, even though they were living here.

However if you want to suceed, and not become slave labor, you better learn to speak English here in the United States.

I finally got tired of people trying to make political statments in a forum dedicated to WDW. That's the only reason I ever respond to that kind of crap to begin with. I just hope it stops. I constantly e-mail Government officials. That's enough contact for me. I come here to escape that real life junk.

I think it's kind of cool that people who enjoy something so much (Disney, the parks, the movies) can have such wildly different world views. It fascinates me. But it isn't everyone's thing, and some people get very upset when their opinions are challenged.

The 3 days are non-expiring, but must be used by Dec 31, 2013. It is mostly Costcos on the East Coast, but they have been found in the Kansas City area Costcos, so it might be possible for the Costcos in Chicagoland to have them. So if you would still be interested in them, it would be worth a phone call.

I did leave almost 2 years ago now..after several forays in... I am just saying the level of discourse that was occurring here- and personal comments belongs there not here. Some people want to drag each topic thru the mud-- no issue with that as long as it doesn't start to invade very thread as some topics/comments tend to do in W/E. For years every topics turned into an attack on the CLintons-- then every topic somehow brought in Bush sucks.. just got old for me-- glad you enjoy it..but that level of political discussion belongs there, not here. Unlike some I think it has a place on LP..because as you say it is fascinating that Disney binds most of us..but politically for some the gulf could not be wider.
