Not even with the ingeunity of adding Miss Piggy's "ba-dum-dum-dum!" after her "Fiiiiiive goooooooold rinnnnnnnngs!"?? *sigh* :-( <Little St Nick by the Beach Boys-I can count on one finger how many Beach Boys songs I like (God Only Knows)> What about by the Muppets? (this post senses a pattern, lol) Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem rock it, baby. <I also really don't like "Silver Bells". I don't hate it, I just don't like it much.> I love it. And for some reason the memory of seeing Reba McEntire and Bob Hope stroll along a fake snowy city street singing this on a special of his has stayed with me for 20 years, lol. <My least favorite Christmas song is Joy to the World. In all fairness it is probably because being educated in catholic schools it was sort of our Christmas anthem. Wears thin after a while.> Okay, I'll give you the wearing-thin thing due to what you've been through. I love this one (and it's one of DAR's favorites...not that that should guilt you into loving it, just sayin'. lol) <And I hate snow! (but that's another thread)> Heehee...Grouchyernmost. ;-) And for the record, I LOATHE Elvis's "Blue Christmas" (I reach for the dial as fast as I can on that one) and I'm burned out on "Silent Night". It's always heralded as "THE Christmas song!!" and regarded so highly, and---well---that puts me off. It's like the hype is bigger than the song, so the song doesn't seem that effective or "live up to" what's attached to it. Too much expectation for just a simple, slow song. It is pretty and can be meaningful, but it just takes a really effective version to catch my attention now. Kinda like how the media keeps throwing all these celebrities in my face and so I don't care for hearing about them. I feel like people are gasping in horror that I have dared say anything negative on "Silent Night" and I keep trying to explain myself but it doesn't help. lol I just need a break from it a lot. I really do love Christmas! 0

And it's a loooooong song, repetitive. But it's okay if you like it. If you need me, I'll be in the corner listening to Blue Christmas by Elvis. ; )

I kind of look at it a different way. I mean, I get what you're saying and it's difficult for me to comment because I do celebrate Christmas, but I figure if you're listening to Christmas songs, you probably *do* celebrate or at least acknowledge Christmas. I guess I think that if it's offensive because a lot of the world doesn't celebrate Christmas, then all other Christmas songs would have to be offensive too. Just my take on it
