The style was short, short dresses but we could only wear dresses that were 2 inches above the knee to school. School dances were where we could wear anything and we'd spend hours on the phone with friends deciding what we were going to wear. Sometimes my sister (who was 4 years older than me) would let me wear her dresses. A short dress, clunky high heels with bows, pantyhose and as much makeup as I could get out of the house wearing. The boys still stood on the other side of the gym and NO girls would be caught dancing with another girl so we pretty much stood around and envied anyone who had a boyfriend who would dance or sent a friend back and forth across the floor to ask a boy to ask us to dance.
