I was a great skateboarder!! Since I am female I was challenged alot by the guys and usually kicked their rears royally. My friend Laura and I would tear up the streets on our boards and we got alot of attention that way. Last month I tried to ride my ALVA skateboard (yes, I still own my original) and about fell on my keester. Oh, what the years have done to me!

Another thing that really sticks in my mind is my 13th surprise party. What fun! All of my friends were there, as well as my Grandmas and Grandpas, Aunt Lois and Uncle Charlie, who now are all deceased. Wow, what I would give to relive that day just once.

    Major Events of 1979:

US and China establish full diplomatic relations
    Soviets invade Afghanistan
Vietnamese take Phnom Penh, China invades Vietnam
    Idi Amin overthrown
    War between Somalia and Ethiopia
    Shah of Iran deposed
Peace agreement reached between Egypt and Israel
    Trade Act
Militant students seize US Embassy in Teheran

*I guess there was a lot of war this year. At the time I didn't know what was going on. Most of my family was in the military so I'm sure that's why my mom sheilded us from these events. I know she was always worried about her brothers.

I didn’t list this because it was all disco and I really want to forget those years of making Ursula design dance moves with me in the living room. **shiver**

*What a great year for movies! I was, and still am, the greatest Rocky fan in the world. And to have a Rocky II at the time was awesome! I remember asking my dad if they would have a Rocky III. Who knew...

    Most Popular Books:
I am leaving this out, too, because at 13 it was all about skateboarding. But, later on, I did read Cruel Shoes by Steve Martin, which was #4 on the Nonfiction list.

Since I had to go to bingo with my grandma all the time, I didn't get to watch most of these shows. Kids nowadays should be eternally grateful for the creation of TiVo. I was a weird child though, because I had a crush on James Brolin on Hotel. I also liked Lee Horsely, the guy who played Matt Houston. I had a thing for facial hair a child.

I was so obsessed with Big Daddy Kane it was ridiculous. I only had ONE friend who knew who he was.

It was fun listening to rap/hip-hop/r&b before it was "cool" to do so.....
