There's safety in numbers among the liberals on this board. And they know it. And conservatives figure it isn't worth the effort. Especially if it isn't going to be met with debate but put downs. I have liberal friends who know how to debate and we listen to each others' opinions. We might not agree. And minds might never be changed. It never resorts to name calling or put downs. Like on this board. Just an observation.

No one called them names, they represented their positions well, and we had some good debates. Trouble is, I think many of those conservatives didn't really want to hang out with the likes of Beau and his descendants, who sort of became the face of conservatism here unfortunately. In a way, it's not unlike the country as a whole where the Republican Party has lurched to the right and a lot of people who once called themselves Republicans are now calling themselves independents because they don't want to be associated with those guys.

We'll certainly argue with you, but we won't call names. Or if we do because we're mad, we'll apologize once we cool down. If you're hear to be a stereotypical Sarah-Palin-lovin' guvmint-shut-downin' 2013 Republican ignoramus, then you're not wanted. Like much of the country, we're done suffering fools gladly. And if you don't like the names, then try harder not to live up to them. (You wouldn't happen to be close personal friends of Ivan, would you? Just wondering.)

But yeah, if you can't even come to the table with a basic understanding of reality and facts (no, Obamacare isn't socialist, and no, Benghazi wasn't worse than Watergate) then I really can't help you. If you preach about traditional marriage because you think time begins at 1780 CE, and you know nothing about what marriage was before then, I can't help you. If you talk about how Obamacare is infringing on your medical freedom, then you turn around and demand women be forced to get a transvaginal ultrasound, can't help you. If you don't even know the difference between the budget deficit (falling, rapidly) and the national debt (still growing), can't help you. tl;dr - Know reality, don't be stupid
