Originally Posted By Mr X ***The Japanese eat all kinds of weird stuff.*** That's certainly a matter of opinion (I'm not a big fan of rotten soybeans over rice myself), but the food here in Japan BLOWS THE DOORS off anything you can get in America. No contest, not even remotely close. ALL of the (let's say top 10) amazing meals I've ever eaten in my life, aside from home cooking, have been in Japan. And as for the Japanese opinion about American food I've always heard one of two things. 1) Americans only care about volume, quality matters not. and 2) The various cuisines around the world are wonderful and delicious with two exceptions, England and America. fwiw. ***yesit seems even high end places can dumb donw to appeal more to the masses and yeah -for real- a Kobe hot dog -- there's another place in my subur - another upscale eatery called Rosebuds - also has it on the menu -- go figure*** LOL. I wondered why this conversation reminds me of the dumbing down of world showcase menus! That's what it really comes down to, I think. High end or not, people WANT to order freakin burgers and hot dogs wherever they go, so the high end places had to come up with a "classy" or "fancy" way to serve em up - enter Kobe beef. *sigh*

I'm looking forward to dining in Japan, though there are soe awesome places here in Europe. And the US is not all bad - Napa Rose, Victoria and Alberts and Steakhouse55 all offer quality over quantity, the way I always like it (and why I am more likely to choose DL over WDW for my vacations).
