Originally Posted By danyoung >Since all my trips now involve staying at a WDW resort, I hardly see it.< I was actually kinda ticked when I saw that Disney was building a bus stop right at the gates to the MK. Yes, it is more convenient. But it sure seems that arriving that way robs you of some of the magic. It's like going into the Living Seas by way of the sliding glass doors instead of the hydrolator - it just wasn't the same!

Before the park opened you could ride the monorail out there, unload at the monorail station, and look up at Spacehsip Earth. Loved that...

Even after all these years I enjoy the excitement of the boat ridein on the first day and the chance to refect on the tripthe ferry rides allows as I watch the castle get further and further away on our last day

The REAL magic is getting inside the parks. So I have to agree that this is one thing I wish management would have planned a lot differently. I mean, a bus that takes you directly to the front gates is a lot more magical than being stepped on or pushed around while riding either the monorail or the Ferry boats.

Of course, whichever has a shorter line sometimes influences which form of transportation we use!

Maybe it's because I tend to travel during the off season, and have rarely felt any overcrowding on the monorails, and never on the ferry (except at night at park closing, of course). And the slow build of anticipation just makes the actual arrival that much sweeter, IMO.

And as I previously mentioned; Disney World could build several hotels around one monorail station instead of the urban sprawl which they built with all the bus service, just like in any common U.S. city. It's really sad to see the missed opportunity which Disney had with all of the land that they own in Orlando. Hopefully, with the competition from the other non-Disney parks in Orlando will force Disney World to upgrade the transportation system to keep guests on property.

I really enjoy the layout of hotels like AKL, with the resort out in its own territory, and nothing else around. I'd like it even more if a monorail came through, but I can understand how the high cost of a monorail prohibited that.
