Ahh, yes. the Newhall Land and Farming Company. I just googled them. The company actually still exists. They opened MM in 1971, and sold it to Six Flags in 1979.

(Case in point, CircleVision was free, as far back as I remember. Then again, the pre-show and lobby exhibits were all plugs for AT&T, the film itself contained some obvious plugs for AT&T (like a scene aboard an AT&T cable-laying ship), and the exit lobby featured a bank of pay-speakerphone booths ("Chatter Boxes").

Ah, memories. Back when a trip to Disneyland was a once a year thing, we always made a point to use those phones to call my grandparents back home. It was very futuristic at the time.

At the beginning, no. But that's the trouble with Wikipedia. By the end they were definitely promoting the "Pay One Price" thing, desperately trying to get people to come, and I don't think any attraction cost extra.

Even this guy doesn't have pics though - he pleads near the bottom of the page for anyone who does, and was answered with one guy who sent one... you can't see the character wall, but you can see the wooden rail the phones hung on.

I have very strong memories of this character wall from the 60's. I remember you used to push a button on the phone, and the character would light up on the wall as you heard the voice talking to you. Simple, but very very cool!
