Vestas has wind turbines that can generate 3 Megawatts of electricity. That's enough juice to power 30,000 100 Watt light bulbs, or enough to power about 2000 houses that use 1000 KWh per month.

Vestas has invested millions in building factories in the USA and is hiring Americans, unlike "American" companies that offshore their factories to China. I think there was a little confusion there. I do think at this point, wind turbines are cheaper, and don't require modifications to your home...just a different source for the power. If I had the room for it, I would seriously consider installing a wind turbine in my yard.

My understanding is that the bottleneck with photovoltaic solar panels has been in efficiency (as in wattage generated per square foot of solar panel). There is a great deal of expensive research being done (a lot strange quantum physics is involved here, its anything but simple) in trying to improve this, but they have a long way to go.
