because we all post on a Disney blog site as much as we do, this one may be a relative term to most

Don't worry - you'll get that Disney twinkle back in your eye once you get yourself over to TDR for the first time.

<<< Go to TDL. From everything I hear they know how to do Disney better than Disney. >>>

Yep. Well, actually, that's not quite correct. A lot of what goes on at TDR management-wise has to do with Japanese management style in general, but where do you think they learned "how do to Disney" originally? Disney itself knows very well how to do it right - it's just that in some instances they choose not to.

<<< Man, a couple of years ago, every attraction we rode [at WDW] had significant problems, >>>

I know what you mean. It seems that every time I go to WDW, there's at least one thing noticeable on just about every attraction that's not working properly, and in some cases they significantly affect the show. EE's Yeti is a glaring example, but it's in its own class: what I'm mostly talking about is all of the little things that when taken together make a great attraction.

Compare this to Tokyo, where I can have a multi-day stay and not notice a single thing on a single attraction that's not working properly. The difference is astounding. And, we're essentially talking about the same attractions: Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion, POTC, and so on. I often don't notice the tiniest of actuators on the smallest finger of an AA not working in Tokyo during an entire visit, and if something is not working, it stands out almost in a humorous way as the one broken thing that was noticed on that trip. It's a totally different experience in that regard than WDW, and when you consider that many of the attractions are the same ones designed by the same people, I think that the reason the "show quality standards" are so different is management mentality.

True, but again, just wait until you get that sparkle back in your eye. What you say above could also be said about most Americans that travel to WDW repeatedly on vacation, even though most of them have a Six Flags or Cedar Fair park within a day's driving distance of their home. Still, they make the trek to WDW because of how they feel about the place.

Show quality is beyond laughable in so many ways.

PoC and BTMRR are in pathetic shape right now. And Fantasmic?!?? With only four showings a week over two whole nights you'd like to think they'd have it in top condition. But no, it's never looked worse. And the films in Soarin??!

    Just very poor show.

But hey, you can buy Iron Man 2 (a PARAMOUNT PICTURES release) merchandise all over WDW ... and that's magical!

I was on Pirates last night Spirit, and I must say I disagree. Everything was working and looked perfect, minus the hat pirate who still doesn't have his hats.

You act like it's news to report that every effect is actually working.

Hopefully things would always look and work great (if not perfectly) when coming off of maintenance or a refurb. The real question is, what do things look like 6 months later, or the day before an attraction goes down for the annual refurb?

Unfortunately it is. But the ride has gotten better and better the past 2 years, and it's the best I've ever seen it since I started working there.

Ummm...JC hasn't had a refurb in over 2 years. And it looks better now than after that refurb.

    So bravo to the team.

Well then, I guess that would explain why there are so many non-working effects.

Apparently they were back for a while, and then were gone a couple days later. I'll try to find out what the deal is.
