I'm gonna say yes, they would be turned off by that. You and I look at it as a valued element of Disney history. But really, the arrangement, the instrumentation, the vocal style, all are really really old fashioned. I'd love it if kids would be turned on by the music, but I'm betting that they wouldn't. So in this case, with the examples you gave, I think Iger did exactly the right thing.

that's a demo that was used for the "making-of" World of Color presentations. The final version was was redone with the London Symphony Orchestra, and it will be more akin to what you hear in this video -

I know what you mean. I hate how she draws all her notes out.

    At least THIS sounds better:

Yep, but TWDC is actively working to take Walt out of the company ... unless using his talk of why he created DL to shill timeshares counts.

Do you see what they are doing with the redo of The Disney Store (the 432nd reinvention)? They want the visit to be the most important and magical part of an 8-year-old's day. ... Forget about anyone older ... so, I'll say right here that they're doomed to fail whether they bring in foamheads, have LCI type entertainment and CMs walking around with iPads.

But the point here is WoC, so I don't wanna digress too much (even if we both know how much that happens ... BTW, I haven't had a donut since Oxford!)

Oh yeah, WoC ... if Iger (or anyone thinks) that playing 30-40 seconds of the old TV theme will make young people walk away from the amazing show that WoC should be, he has lost all sanity whatsoever.

It's not like the show will be 30 minutes of 60's era Disney themes.

And count me not overly impressed by the new agey version, which sounds more like something from 1999-2004 than today anyway.

It's just lame ... it's The Weatherman thinking he is hipper than the room and knows what the dirty masses want.

It's the same thinking that has him and WDI on this tech geek plan to transform the Disney Parks into a more interactive thing ... because as decades have shown, people (especially kids) are bored out of their minds on Mansion and Pirates and Pan and Small World and Space Mountain and etc ... what they really need is some app so they can never look up at anything in the park as they play games on their iPhones.

I REALLY am tired of this mentality. Maybe I should Tweet it to my 643 followers. Nah, I'll have Pierce do it for me.

We established that that's a old version, and Yamabuki and I posted the new version, which sounds much, much better.

I can't agree there, sorry. The sound clip is what inspires the whole show, is a excellent throwback to the original generation to Disney fans, and acknowledges the company's long and celebrated History. It won't date a thing or alienate anyone. In fact, it will bring them in...nostalgia is exactly what Disney markets and ignoring this, and their subsiquent history, is a stupid mistake."

Uuummmm, you mean you HAVEN'T seen this yet?

I think it's WONDERFUL and, in fact, it makes me tear up every time. While I really like the old version and am old enough(40 in a few weeks - Holy CRAP I am getting old!!!)to remember seeing it on the telly, I know enough to know it would NOT play well to audiences of today.

Same one as you, dave, although insults like that will greatly diminish our communications.

Use both. Hit the audience that knows how old it is, then blast the new version. Seeing how far the concept has come would be emotionally universal, then. Hearing the "retro" music and then the new version would have an impact...The same way they use "When you wish upon a star" and the NEW "wishes theme" in wishes.

Probably the closest we got to a "original" character made for a show in a looooooong time,
